cooper
I've never really bothered much with wifi, so I've got some catching up to do. I want to make a few antennas and I have some questions about the needed parts. The one thing all antennas tend to have in common is a BNC connector like these. I'll need a wifi card so I bought the cheapest one I could find that still allowed you to replace the antenna. As luck would have it, it's got an acheros chipset and the antenna connection is an SMA plug. Now I need to connect these two, so I think I need a BNC male to SMA female cable. I can't find one of those - just plugs. So one solution is to buy the plug and get an SMA - SMA cable. But if I do that, I might aswell use one of these instead of the BNC connector. Thoughts? GuardMoony
if i can remember correctly. the bnc connectors aren't great on the higher freq ( >1Ghz ) like wifi ( 2.5 or 5 Ghz ). So go for the sma connector http://www.edaboard.com/thread66554.html
barry99705
Use microwave rated parts or you'll be very disappointed with your antennas.
