jool
You could always code horrible unixy apps (craptacular interfaces and almost impossible to use unless you have a very long and messy beard) in C using VI.
cooper
Perl or Ruby? But like Metatron said, you'll probably be on your way faster by simply using Mono.
Relativity
will check out mono but I am familliar with python . Just wondering though for python is it a gui development add on like how you design the gui in vb or is it notepad ftw ?
cooper
http://infohost.nmt.edu/tcc/help/lang/python/tkinter.html I've seen mention on Google about using Qt and I'm sure there's a GTK binding out there aswell (since this is using Tk... as in TcLtK). Basically, Python will work with anything it seems. Note: I am not at all familiar with Python.
finkployd
It all depends what kind of apps your writing... just something with a simple GUI? Java would work well... if you know Python and/or C/C++ and like to learn another API, I'd recommend GTK/QT as Cooper as suggested. Java's your best bet if you want cross-platform compatiblity though.
