dkeefe75
Ok, I am trying to install Metasploit in a BT4 VM using Virtual Box and it keeps telling me that that I don't have enough space. I have set my VM to have 15GB both fixed and dynamic I have the same issue. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I can't use Metasploit in Windows because even though I disable the firewall and Security Essentials, my machine still blocks it. So I want to just use it in BT. Thanks. Why to install metasploit to BT4. Its installed by default, located in /pentest/exploits/framewok3/ if I remember correctly.
digip
As stated above, metasploit is already installed. Its been in every back|track that I know of. All you would need to do is update it for the latest sploits.
Mr-Protocol
As stated above, installed stock. Framework 2 and 3 are both there. Curious what you would be using backtrack for if you are uncertain of the tools it comes with stock?
hexophrenic
Unlikely to be the case, but the OP may want to have both trunk and stable releases of the framework...i have several different versions of metasploit installed on my box because different versions work better (or worse) than others for different "exercises". dkeefe75
What I really want to do is get the latest version of metasploit on BT4 and then install Armitage. I just figured it would be easier to do a clean install of metasploit and then Armitage.
Mr-Protocol
Armitage is part of the SVN, did you not watch the episode or view the Armitage site and figure that out? Ugg... http://fastandeasyhacking.com/download The latest Armitage is always available in the Metasploit subversion repository. Use svn update . to update to the latest. Use these links if you want to use Armitage as a remote Metasploit client or get the extra files for better Windows integration. Also you dont need to reinstall metasploit. Update it. cd /pentest/exploits/framework3 svn update . service mysql start ./armitage

If you have enough ram on your system, just create a few virtual machines for each one of them (metasploit, backtrack and armitage), that's exactly what I do. Be advised that due to the built in signatures in these applications, any security essential tool like an Antivirus will detect it as a virus/trojan. What you need to do is make sure that any security essential tools you have are disabled before attempting running any of the above tools. Edit: Updating Metasploit should be very easy, just click on the Icon called "update" and it will check for any updates and download them. Why run 3 virtual machines when Backtrack has metasploit and armitage(when you svn update)? Only need 1 VM, Back|Track Edited January 29, 2011 by Mr-Protocol
