cr4sh
has anyone managed to get a persistent USB install working for BT4 Pre final? I'm guessing the same thing that has to be done with trinity has to be done with BT4 pre - ie: have back track install it's self on the USB, not just copy the files over from the ISO. let me know what the secret is for this one, thanks. bobdole369
I'm fairly shocked nobody has started with "Katana"! http://www.hackfromacave.com/katana.html UBCD, Slax, Ophcrack, DSL, DVL, tons of useful utils on the UBCD 4 windows, and a ton of portable stuff - wireshark, OpenOffice, unstoppable copier, etc All this in an ISO and you just mount it up, copy the files, run a .sh Downside is you need at least an 8GB. RogueSpear
I'm fairly shocked nobody has started with "Katana"! Actually I recently reached out to the creator in the feature request subforum to inquire about becoming a contributor to his project. I put together some files and configs to update his project with the latest UBCD 5.0 RC1. Still haven't heard back, but we'll see I guess... SoliliquySavira
GIMP for Windows is incompatible. I use an Ubuntu VM, so send me any images and I'll convert them. http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/files/splash.htm I used this method to create my splashes. (daem0ninflux) It's not a very active forum. Did you hear back from the developer? not to hijack the forum. Enjoy the effort to correlate everyone's efforts! I plan on getting grub to bootload to syslinux so I can have my Multipass that chains to Katana. So hard to divide myself up between this and jasager :P

D1g1ta1
A way for Windows users (Me) to create splashimages If this was answered i do apologize for the redundancy. You can use gimp for windows. Do all the image processing that Darren went through in that show. Then save the file as a BMP. Using the imagemagick win32 port of the command "convert" to convert the BMP to a xpm.gz : convert imagename.bmp imagename.xpm.gz You can pick up the latest binaries from here: http://www.imagemagick.org/download/binaries/ Im using ImageMagick-6.6.2-Q16-windows.zip currently. -D|g|ta| Edited July 7, 2010 by D1g1ta1

SteveSi
re. making 14 colour images. You may find some useful tips at rmprepusb site here. You can just drag and drop any 640x480 image onto a desktop icon and it will convert it to the correct format - see section SplashImage CONVERSION METHOD 1.Also explains how to use GFXMenu images too. With recent grub4dos versions (chenall 2012) you can just use a large .bmp or bmp.gz file and have hi-res, hi-color backgrounds - no need for 14-colour images! Sud0x3
Cant access either of the links provied in the first post, requested access last week but still not been granted. If this is what you call definitve im dissapointed. I realise they have probably been protected because of malicious users but why not just export a copy to pdf so we can have access.
