  1. We're really excited about it. I spoke to the editor before it came out and they really like our stuff :).

In true slashdot style, FTA: Hak.5 "An appealing cast of übergeeks demonstrates nifty 'sploits, like building a laser audio transmitter for an iPod and hacking a CVS digital camera. No pandering to the masses here; each month's installment is packed with code examples and parts lists - plus a shot of 1337 humor. Check out the reviews of iTunes, FireAnt, and Democracy in episode eight, and don't miss the pitches for the latest innovations from "microshaft""

I advise everyone go out and grab a copy. They have a great list of top-notch vidcasts to check out.

  2. thanks for the suggestion. i've heard about how crazy hackable these things are and we'll likely get to hacking them on the show. i think it was frank from techphile that told me about em. good stuff.

  3. Yes, our evil server is pro. If you watch episode 9 you'll see that after we throw him off the parking garage he comes back right before the trivia segment when Alli reads the godaddy promo. He's got a band-aid on his 'forehead'.

  4. No ladder. 1 server. First come first serve. We'll take a little video for the next ep's WAN party bumper. I dont think it will be messy at all. Wess and I will game all day as fans come and go. Should be fun.

  5. no your totally right. i dont make the distinction when i type because it's easier to type noob, but basically what it boils down to is that a noob is someone who doesnt know and doesnt care to learn, where as a newb is someone who doesnt know but at least has the will to learn or something like that do i get a cookie for longest sentence in the thread?

  6. composite (rca connectors, yellow) over cat6 works too.

i wanna see DVI over IP. not just DVI over cat6, but TCP or UDP or whatever works without making it look like junk. sorry, the software guy in me is coming out. back to the hardware mod.

  7. after effects is nice but it doesnt fit into our workflow. im really stretching vegas's abilities in terms of compositing but it works and once the intro is done it's done and i don't have to mess with it again so, im just working with what ive got. i know a screwdriver would be more elegant but right now ive got a hammer and a deadline ;)

  8. We use Sony Vegas and I've got to say it's wonderful. Just as powerful as finalcut pro or premiere yet intuitive enough that anyone can jump right in without a big thick manual at your side. Have fun and experiment. Believe it or not it's powerful enough to do simple compositing. The transitions for Hak.5 we're all done in Vegas. I can't wait for you guys to see the season2 intro too, it's killer.

Anyway, if your not looking to spend any money there is always imovie on mac and windows movie maker on windows but my vote is for vegas.

I don't know of any full featured open source video editors but if anyone else does I'd love to hear about it.

  9. the Hak.5 LAN party is more like a Hak.5 WAN party. And we're still kicking around the ideas (which we need to finalize soon before we shoot wraps) but I'm guessing we'll hold a scheduled game event. I hope our new t-shirt vendor comes through soon so we can do giveaways too. Stay tuned.
