  1. mkay after a little research it appears your wg311v2 has a atheros chipset which is good. What you need to do is do a iwconfig and see if it lists your wireless card. If it does more than likely it'll show as ath0 or ath1 Then if it lists your card, if your just wanting to connect to a network you'll iwconfig ath0 mode managed iwconfig ath0 essid wirelessssid key wirelesskey I think that's right on the last 2 commands for connecting if not it's something like that. It's been awhile since I've done any wireless auditing :D Hope that helps.
  2. Ok guys, I got it tri-booting now, but am curious about something. First of all I re-installed BT so I could write to that partition and configure lilo, but lilo ended up being already installed and configured I just had to add my other entries. My setup: /dev/sda1 = Vista /dev/sda2 = XP /dev/sda3 = BT So I added the lines other = /dev/sda1 label = Vista other = /dev/sda2 label = WindowsXP Now when selecting Vista it loaded the Vista boot loader and gave me the options to boot vista or XP. However if I select XP from the lilo menu I get ntldr missing which kinda makes sense I guess since Vista is now the boot loader for windows. I guess im curious if possible to eliminate the Vista boot loader and just have lilo boot vista and XP directly? I did delete the XP entry since I can get there through Vista's boot loader. I was reading some pretty interesting info on wikipedia about Boot loaders and got a pretty good understanding now. It seems that the last OS installed their boot loader overwrites any exsisting or somehow it can be written to a certain area on a partition, but when installing BT it only gave me pretty much one option to write the mbr :? I'm able to boot all 3 OS'es so im happy but i'd like to only use lilo if anyone is willing to share any advice. :D
  3. @ Sparda, lol gotcha. So far i've tried Aida32 and it is an excellent too, but still lists my audio card as "High Definition Audio Device". Hopefully some of the others will show me what i got:)
  4. Wow! So many options now:) Thanks guys for all the useful info. I will give these tools a try and see what i like best. @ Sparda, lol can't believe you of all people overlooked that I noted cpuz;) @ moonlit, thanks for the interesting links also I'm gonna check out those episodes. @ nickisgod1, man I have BT installed also and didn't even think of that  thanks for bringin that to my attention :D Thanks to everyone else's input as well.
  5. Curious if anyone knew of a tool that will scan your computer and actually tell you what hardware is found. I been workin on this audio issue for awhile and not even sure what audio card is in my lap-top (HP dv6227cl) I checked HP's web site and it only lists audio as being Altec Lansing which is only the speaker system. It seems the fixes are easier for Intel based systems , but I haven't found much useful information at all for AMD based systems. My problem is in my other post about the Microsoft UAA HD Audio Bus Driver, which is installed, but for some reason can't load and givin me a code (39) troubleshooting isn't helpful as far as microsoft says about coode 39. I've checked out cpu-z which is a very useful tool, but doesn't tell me what type of sound card i have. Highly appreciate any advice on this.
  6. you try modprobe ndiswrapper after installing the driver?
  7. Excellent. I think all that was covered in the A+ area, but it's been forever since I done that.
  8. Nobody has had any experience with this? I have to say this has been the most frustrating driver issue i've encountered. From microsoft to hp and a couple other vendor sites nothing has worked for me. It seems to be a finger pointing game. Another thing i just tried is my model is hp dv6227cl and as far as HP's site they don't really have any drivers for XP besides quick launch buttons, so I searched for a few other models and assume my audio is the Conexant HD Audio because model dv6226 is what had that driver available for download only under Vista. I did install the microsoft UAA driver somehow it is listed in my add/remove progs, but for some reason the HD driver pacakages I've attemtped to install it always asks for hdaudbus.sys and to insert disk1. The driver packages come with a disk1 folder once extracted, but that file is not there. However I do have the file, but I believe it's for vista. After tryin to install it gives me a code 39 error and cannot install hardware. Also XP doesn't recognize the internal modem, but im mainly concerned about audio and im sure once audio is installed it will see the modem.
  9. k, Thanks Sparda. Yea I want to try grub I need to get familiar with these boot loaders and understand more how they work :D
  10. Excellent. Thanks man I am gonna check that out now. @ Sparda Hey I should be able to use lilo instead of grub if I choose to correct? After a bit of reading about grub it appears I need to download it and install it, but that's kinda tough now that BT is already installed and the only way to get to it is to boot of cd for now. Last time when i just went XP & BT I used lilo so i'ma gonna give that a shot i'll just have to figure out how to write the entries again, but hopefully it'll be cake :)
  11. Anybody had any trouble installing this in XP? Vista seems to find it no problem, but in XP it's like I can't find a suitable driver for it, really frustrating. I have a: HP dv6227 1 gig ram 120 gig drive AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-50 As far as Vista device manager just recognizes it as "HD High Definition Audio Device". I found quite a bit of info on microsofts website it appears like I need to install some type of plugin (UAA)? It's like I can't find the download for the plug-in though :? Just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with this or experienced this.
  12. Did that work for you? If so what boot manager did you use? @ Sparda, yea I am gonna attempt to use Grub, I never used it before, I used ilo once last time when I dual booted XP and BT. Is Grub similar to where I'll just write the entries in a txt file? Thanks guys, gonna give grub a shot tonight.
  13. not sure if it only works with lilo or not, I at one time on my old lap-top dual-booted BT and XP Pro and I did use lilo. Now I'm using Vista boot loader and XP boot loader. I just need to figure out how to had the backtrack entry to the XP boot loader in the boot.ini file. Or should I say how exactly to type the entry I know how to add it, just not in the correct format. :?
  14. Thanks Cooper. Sorry I wasn't specific enough. I knew how to edit the boot.ini file and I tried the following C:WINDOWSisolinux.bin="Back|Track 2.0 Beta" And it does display the entry then when I select BT it gives me a weird number on a black screen like "041800000" or something like that and just sits there, and after hitting any key it just reboots. It also gave me the windows error about hal.dll i just need to figure how how to write the entry to the xp boot.ini file :?
  15. Ok so far not to bad. I followed this tutorial to an extent. http://www.hevnikov.com/blog/2006/11/13/tr...le-boot-screen/ Now the only thing I can't get booting is BT. I just need to figure out how to add it to the windows XP bootloader. My setup is: 40 gb primary ntfs (Vista) 60 gb primary ntfs (XP) 11 gb primary ext2 (BT) 1 gb linux swap I installed BT first then XP, then Vista, now only BT won't boot and i know it's just cause I need to add it to the XP bootloader somehow.
  16. Thanks Sparda. I think i'm good to go now... I hope :D
  17. Thanks again Sparda. I haven't installed BT yet, I just wanted to see what would happen after installing Vista then XP. I guess I just got 2 more questions for now. 1. My previous attempt if I just wanted to do Vista and XP am I missing something to make vista boot? 2. If I wanted to also just do Vista and XP could I still just use Grub as a boot loader? Gonna try that now.
  18. Okay so what I did my friend gave me his lap-top to test things out on. So I installed the evaluation copy of Vista Ultimate I have and and installed XP. XP did give me an error during installation some procedure entry point unrepwmp.exe I think it was, but it did continue to install with no other probs. After install was complete it only booted XP, but what I did was edit the boot loader and added a new line (copy & paste) and just changed the location. the default line was set to boot xp from XPPROSP2 so all i did was change that in the second line back to WINDOWS and then I gave it the name "Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate". Of course it prompts me when booting but it doesn't boot Vista :?
  19. Sweet, I don't have much data on it yet I was waiting till I got the chance to set it up like I wanted to. So I should be able to do that with the BT disc it has gparted. Actually I think I even tried that before but it never actually applied the changes to the partition but i'll give it a go. Thanks, Sparda
  20. Nice chat, I thought about doin something like that along time ago, now that this post is here I have good information to do so:)
  21. LOL, handle your business Sparda. Yes unfortunately it does fill the partition, well there is the second 7 gig partition that's the recovery partition I planned on leavin that as it is. What's confusin me I mainly just wasn't sure how or if I should prepare the drive a certain way with Vista already being installed. Previously I ran XP and BT and used gnome partition editor, but I believe it wipes out everything when using that and it was a bootable tool.
  22. whoa... I went to use the restroom came back and bam just that quick got a reply and I just posted this :D Thanks Sparda. Just one other thing, about preparing the drive, should i create seperate partitions for each OS and then have a 1 gig linux swap partition? If so what partition tool would you recommend? Thanks a bunch.
  23. Guys, im lookin to get into something I already know it. Lookin for some insight/advice on this. HP dv6227cl 1 gb ram 120 gb drive amd turion 64 tl-50 x2 Vista Home Premium What im lookin to do is tri-boot XP SP2 and my fav. version of linux (backtrack) if not I could live with dual booting Vista and XP and just use BT off bootable cd. The thing is since Vista is already installed I know it's probably gonna be complicated. I guess what I would like to know is what would be the best way to prepare the drive in this case and which would be better to install first XP or BT? I usually would use gnome partition editor off bootable cd to prepare the drive, but not sure if I can do that being that vista is already installed. Partition Magic never works, never caused me nuttin but problems, so I would like to achieve this using anything/method besides anything to do with partition magic. Thanks guys.
  24. Also something that took me awhile to figure out that you have to in the adapter properties --> advanced tab --> settings button for firewall --> advanced tab in firewall settings --> select adapter in use for server and you have to check FTP Server and HTTP Server if your doin HTTP also. It seems that in XP SP2 you have to do that for each adapter for it to work properly. Then since your runnin your own server open up IE or FF or whatever you use and do a http://localhost... actually are you using IIS? This method will work fine for IIS I haven't used anything else so not sure if it'll work with any other type of FTP server/software.
  25. Is that was that is? A hosting site? Don't i feel dumb now  I was assuming he was running his own server only cause that's the only way i would do it and am use to :)
