  2. Glad everything turned out well. Hexskrew great pictures as far as what the wind can do, But this is what the water does. This is a picture of a rural town of Delcambre (pronounced Dell-come). This is Delcambre High School's football field. Delcambre is 200 miles east of where Ike hit and 30 miles inland As well as above sea level. As you can see everything was covered by a foot of muddy brackish water. This might not seem that bad but a foot of dirty brackish water will kill all farmland and severely affect any freshwater fisheries. As well as meaning the gutting of the house at least to the level of the water. And this was 200 miles away.
  3. Yeah as someone who has lived in Louisiana all his live Yeah hurricanes suck. The Saffir-Simpson rating system used is based on sustained wind speed not the overall energy of the storm. This can be missleading. There has even been much talk in the us to create a new rating system for hurricanes. Washington post Wow looking at the forecast that is one SLOW moving Cyclone. it looks like you will have a full 20 hours of so of Very bad weather. Anyway stay safe.
  4. 3- atari 2600 and 200+ games for it. and no computer worth mentioning. I am more of a strategy/ turn based game kind of guy so I never run into hardware issus.
  5. This sounds great. I could probably make a couple of more boxes up if the other one is MIA. I was wondering if a list of users interested was ever created. I was also thinking maybe a way of doing it would be to have the box itself have an account on the hack5 forums (the password would be in the box) and people can pm the boxes' account if they are interested in receiving it. That way no one has to maintain the boxes location. PM me and I will send one your way.
  6. Check out episode 5x03 at 40 mins they answer a similar question. I think you are running into the same problem they mention. Their suggestion was to use www.splitcamera.com
  7. I have done this before at my parents old house and It is not even something a realtor looks at. It will not increase the home value at all. I think wireless has really prevented there being much of a demand for it. That being said I will probably do it again though when I get my own place because of the speed, reliability and security. That is what I think you should use to try and sell the idea to your Father. Wireless is inherently more insecure then a wired network. I would also point out the reliability and cost of equipment compared to wireless. Also this is not really that hard. It is tedious depending on the amount you are doing. I would also suggest running the cables in the wall and use "old work" electrical boxes instead of using surface mount. Just make sure you use a stud finder and make sure all the proposed walls have a cavity in between the studs that runs from floor to ceiling this is the norm. My brothers house though has a lot of cross bracing and game me headaches.
  8. Nope you are not alone. I also feel that way. I also would like to go to a con but not sure of where to start. is there a n00b con? :) Also does anyone know of any cons in south central U.S. All the cons I can find are about 12 hours of driving away.
  9. @ swathe Well looking at roamheart.com you will see he is also a member of a cosplay forum and from looking at the patch on his shoulder and the name umbrella I believe this is his costume for "umbrella corp. " from resident evil. I've never played resident evil so I can't say for certain though. @ don This seems to be of malicious intent to me. This being the first and only post it is hard to judge your character, But it seems to me that you want to use any images found to try to make fun of him for being nerdy. Might I suggest that you try someplace else if you are trying to make fun of geeks and nerds.
  10. I am not sure if you have already modded or have decided not too, but seeing the kindle 2 packaging inspired me. It looks like that the thinkpad has a flat black finish on it. How about getting some stencils of some sort and paint it with high gloss black.
  11. The Annoy-a-tron or the Phantom keystroker from thinkgeek gets my vote.
  12. @ loftrat and moonlit Very good point I think I will setup a friend as the Mark because the of that was to illistrate that most the time browsing is not secure. The only reason to sniff their packets was for the fear/surprise factor though I now feel that might not outweigh how upset people they would be. I think I might change that to where I just use my mark and have him fill out a webpage while wireshark is running in the background and let them know this could be you if you have viruses on you machine or use a public wifi. All of the kids already know not to trust people they don't know online. It has been very ground into them, that is why I want to try a new angle and cover some topics they do not usually get. Such as if you or a friend posts a picture of them in a school uniform I now know where they are mon-fri. I might do this by asking a volontere to so me his pics he has posted online and then analyze them. I have to disagree and say that 10 -14 year olds are actually pretty bright. I work at an elementary school and would prefer to teach a 10-14 year olds about privacy than the teachers. The real problem is not that they do not understand privacy but that they believe fitting in (doing what everyone else is doing) is more important then privacy.
  13. Thanks everyone @ Sparda wow! You just explained what I want to accomplish a whole lot more concise then I did. So if anybody has some good ideas on how to do that let me know.
  14. Here is my situation. I have been asked to help with a presentation on internet safety. The age group is about 10-14. Also this discusion will be done in a Lab with the kids on computers. I do not want to do the usual pedobear is out to get you sort of talk. (Though will mention it to satisfy any parents in the room) I would like to do a presentation centered more on information security. What I mean is first nothing online is private. everything online is permanent. (once the interwebs have a hold on something they don't let go.) Don't do stupid things like posting to public i lost my phone facebook groups. The things you do on the web today will effect your future. My plan fire up cain and abel and monitor the lab (possible create a very basic phishing page for facebook) Then do my pedobear is out to get you talk at which point all the kids get bored and start to login into email, myspace, facebook. And my machine sits there collecting passwords. After that show them I have all your passwords to prove the point that nothing you do on a computer is safe or secure I hope you understand what I am going for and I am open up to suggestions.
