  1. haha thats gotta suck, also h3% how is it i get better up but a shitty down?

    and dr0p whats powerboost?

Well, that has alot to do with what the IP wants you to have at your disposal. They are probably on a plan with their trunk provider to get x up for $ and x down for $ and so they give a little more up to justify the price of the down. *because unless you run a server, it's obvious that you would not use near the ammount of down*

hey gcninja are you sharing your connection with anyone ?? If your NOT ( and you're wired & not downloading anything) check for packet loss on your connection... same thing happened to me about a year ago ..took 3 techs to find out it was a faulty card in the UBR at the CO.

Wow now that sucks, but hey, it happens...

  2. I've got an original gameboy and it has battery space for 4 AAs. I haven't kept up with what people are using but I'm sure that you could fit any type of battery you'd need in that.

If you could get it to output something on the screen, that would be cool! If not, just replace it with a pineapple sticker!

You could probably tap the buttons and use them to turn the device on and off, maybe even tie them to the gpio and use as direct input to the fon.

This sounds like an epic idea... I just thought about another one though...

What about a sprite can? Would it be too small for it?

  3. I checked but uverse is not available in my area yet. They probably have to upgrade the main box for it first..

So how is fios? I have heard not so good things (more like it's just more of the same internet just not as fast as they advert.) is this true? I always wanted to check it out to see if it's worth the hype.

  4. I did check out the sd tutorial. I may do that, but only after I have cracked into it and messed around for awhile. Heck it was a suprise to know dd-wrt is made for it, and one good question.. Just in case I want to go the 'legit' route for awhile on the fon, once you activate it, you can still flash the bios back and go the jasager or dd-wrt route eh?

My reasoning for this question is in darren's jasager how-to it specificly says once you open the box ABSOLUTELY do not let it get on the internet until you flash it.

  5. Yah, it was $25.

Gotta say the site is kinda unprofessional tho as far as ordering. I had to send in a question to get my tracking number... still havent got it. Also they seem to REAAALLYYY want you to use paypal (which I didn't use).

  6. Yah, you must be dr0p cause out of all the hype I have ever heard about it, I have yet to see/hear of someone's internet connection be as stable as my dsl connection... except for cox cable, but it's nowhere around where I am @. A friend of mine had comcast, and vonage... you could either watch tv, or talk on the phone but not both. I tried everything to see if I could fix the issue and it never happened.

  7. stingwray, you are totally right. My bad, dont know what made me think it, but I was thinking the ghz rating of the i7 was all 4 cores added up.(im a goof)

Still though you think about it 50X$89.99=$4499.50 with 60ghz of available clock cycles per second, is not bad at all but that would be one pain in the a$$ to administer.

and when they hit 49.99 a peice, that would be super awesome cause that would be:

    50x$49.99=$2499.50 @ 60ghz = 4cents/hert

I'm just sayin. Im sure we will see something about someone (who actually has time for this) who ended up buying like 1000 of these things and now has a super cluster that rivals some super computer for 1/8th the cost.

Though I still think broadly this will be a novelty unless they turn it into a full fledged consumer pc.

  8. Hey hey now. I am the only one who can waste my time!

Well, I would at least have to give you props on the thread name. It pops out more..

And yes, A power board full of these would be more awesome than a closet full of mac minis which makes me think about something....

    MICRO CLUTER COMPUTING!!!!

    Lemme calculate cost/power

    Intel Core i7 (quadcore) @ 69.23GFLOPS per sisoft sandra (source: http://mos.techradar.com/techradar-corei7-benchmarks.pdf) 3.4ghz =x1=$289.99 (w/o anything else

    SheevaPlug:cant find GFLOPS but it's a 1.2ghz X3 = 3.6ghz cluster, $269.97

Dude... Imagine about 50 of these.

50X$89.99=$4499.50 with 60ghz of available clock cycles per second! w00t!

  9. well...

    Atmel All integrated/no video controller/512mb storage/512mbram/1.2ghz= 89.99

    Robin Z5xx Nano COM Express/no built in storage/1.1ghz=base 129.00 + 200 for carrier board = 329.....

I think price/performance= Atmel 4 the win. For 329, I can build something better *not as small* but better.

or hell, for 329 I can buy an aspire one, config it for a media/backup device/whatever, and throw it under the couch.

    Just thought of something though...

Atmel computer + FON + BatteryPack = Ultimate Hacker Device! FTW!
