joselee07
I need a USB wifi adapter for Kali Linux penetration testing. I have two options: 1) Panda and 2) Alfa. I know Alfa is excellent for high range wireless connection. But, it is too costly. So, help me which one is worthy.
Struthian
This one is quite nice. https://hakshop.com/collections/wireless-gear/products/ralink-rt3070-usb-wifi-adapter Check this out with it. https://hakshop.com/collections/wireless-gear/products/long-range-wifi-kit Or those and more. https://hakshop.com/products/hak5-long-range-wifi-field-kit
b0N3z
panda makes a good 2.4/5ghz dongle for $40 on amazon and I haven't tried any of the newer alfa cards yet.
theCucKo0
I am personally using the Panda and have found it to have a decent distance. I can pick up neighbors Wifi a few blocks away ;)

Exmix
I personally have this one from tha Hak5 Shop as well as the TP-Link TL-WN722N and They both work weel enough for me. I don't get anything SUPER far away but I don't have issues with getting a decent connection, staying connected, or not being able to see networks I should. Occassionally i'll use the old "Wifi Dongle in a Pringles can" thing and that has helped but I don't need to do that very often. xD Edited January 2, 2018 by Exmix
hadodogofr
I love the Alfa AWUS036ACH and TL-WN722. I never tried any other chipset, here they recommend more wifi usb models. Not sure if there are more 5ghz models out there, but the AWUS036ACH is a beast!
unbredworm
Do you have a link to setting this up? Just got mine and I'm super excited to test the range. Can it be configured to use with a Mac?

Can it be configured to use with a Mac? Yes, the drivers work on all unix based systems, so they will work on a mac. I'd recommend installing linux, as you'll get far more use out of it in an OS that you can customize and change settings to your liking. You could increase the txpower, which will increase the range. If that isn't far enough for you, look into 2.4Ghz Yagi-Uda Antennas. They're really fun, as they can give you wifi ranges of over a mile. Hak5 has a video talking about it.
