No USB Connectivity

Hello all,

I recieved my MkIV in the mail yesterday and I've been tinkering with getting it set up, but I'm having problems getting it to recognize any USB devices (light doesn't come on, devices don't show up in web portal, etc), and I'm concerned that it may be a hardware issue? Here's a summary of where I'm at and how I've tried to diagnose the problem:

Firmware: 2.8.1 (flashed twice, no devices plugged in; able to access web portal and SSH, ICS enabled and confirmed working)

Power: From the wall through the stock brick

Devices tried:

PNY 16GB drive

PNY 32 GB drive

SanDisk 4 GB Cruzer Fit

(All three have been formatted according to http://forums.hak5.org/index.php?/topic/25882-how-to-enable-usb-mass-storage-with-swap-partition/ and have been tested successfully on two other systems)

Alfa NHA card (also verified working)

lsusb Output:

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

mount Output:

rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)
/dev/root on /rm type squashfs (ro,relatime)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,noatime)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,noatime)
tmpfs on /tmp type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,size=14672k)
tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,noatime,size=512k,mode=755)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,noatime,mode=600)
/dev/mtdblock3 on /overlay type jffs2 (rw,noatime)
overlayfs:/overlay on / type overlayfs (rw,relatime,lowerdir= ,upperdir=/overlay)
debugfs on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw,relatime)
none on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw,relatime)

And

ls /dev/sd*

Returns 'No such file or directory'

As I said, none of the devices get any response from the Pineapple from what I can tell. I'm hoping that maybe it's a configuration issue? I'm not experienced enough with Linux to know where to look or what to try to verify that USB services are enabled and running, my Google-fu isn't turning anything up, and I've run out of ideas as to how to diagnose the issue with hardware alone. I'd really like to get some Infusions running and start actually experimenting with the device, so any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

Here's the dmesg output:

did this come with 2.8.1 or you upgrade to it then reflashed it to make sure it was working?

while I am guessing this wont help you could always try downgrading. just a suggestion since it doesn't take that long

I have had trouble with different USB drives when i first got mine. I had to go through my pile of about 10 misc ones and found 1 out of my 10 that works. Some of them when plugged in would take to much power; others for some reason would restart the pineapple or others I couldn't get it to recognize the swap partition.

Also having this issue with SanDisk 4 GB Cruzer Fit that came with the pineapple package.

Have tryed reformmating the drive with two ext4 partitions.

Reflashed the pineapple to 2.8.1. tryed booting with and without the usb plugged in. sometimes its detects it sometimes it doesnt.

Powering by the ac adaptor also tryed the USB.

The problem appears to be intermittent and a hardware / firmware issue.

a little dissapointed here

My USB pops up on the Iusb output, but it still tells me

"USB mount not found Installing dependencies to main memory is not permitted.

Please use a USB drive."

When i try running the keylogger infusion.
