Help using an ubuntu version of xchat

So trying to get to the hak .5 irc server using a ubuntu version of xchat that I got of off the package manager any help would be great.

Thats what Im looking at

type "/server irc.hak5.org" into the chat bar, then once thats finished connecting, type "/join #hak5" and you should be in.

WHen you open the program do you get a window that pops up asking about servers? If so, you can set it up to automatically logon to the server and open #hak5.
