Brian Sierakowski
Hey, I'm building a new machine for my GF, she's going to be using it for video editing, and then probably exclusively for Starcraft 2 (if) when it comes out. So, here's what I have so far from Newegg, my goal was to buy the bottom of the line new tech, that way we can upgrade it massively over time and get some good use out of it. I've also tried to buy mainstream popular tech, as I've gotten burned on my last ram (rambus) and my last processor (socket 939) going horribly out of style, presumably the day after I put the machine together. Let me know if I'm making any huge mistakes, any insight is helpful! -- ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel MotherboardASUS P6T SE ATX Intel Motherboard $209.99 Thermaltake V9 VJ400G1N2Z Black Computer Case $104.99 Acer X223Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor $149.99 Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 $47.99 Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920 $279.99 CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory $166.00 CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply $99.99 SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card $189.99 Microsoft SideWinder X8 Black USB 2.4GHz Wireless Gaming Mouse $79.99 Grand Total: $1,328.92 I have some extra SATA hdd's I can use. thedude
I didnt search these but I know for a fact I can build a desktop computer using parts and case at geeks.com for under $200. That was bare minium. I didnt go for high graphic and kick butt speed CPU. Defitnly check out Geeks.com somtimes they have the same item for a little cheaper than Newegg.com (somtime even have a part newegg doesnt have)

cykio
Looks like a great set up there. Only thing I could mention was if she a video editor (dunno if just for fun or professional) would a second monitor not be good? and some raid1?
Brian Sierakowski
We're in a bit of a monitor crunch, she might have to use mine as an extra while shes doing it up. And we'll use an external hdd for backups, I love RAID to death but it's always been cost prohibitive for me... unless you have any suggestions there? Thanks, -Brian
Swathe
I dont feel raid is required on a gaming machine. I have a 150gb raptor as my os drive and would go SSD if i wasn't broke lol.
