  1. i would like to do it in c++ but i barely know enough to make a txt adventure. i may do vb since it uses graphics. as far as the rooms are concerned i was thinking something more like a random generated dungeon. i build about 30 or so rooms. you go through about 20 per play. the rooms are chosen at random via a random number generator and then placed in random order (other than the first and last rooms of course.) that way you have almost no chance of playing the same game twice. then again. considering i have a book on c++ and a book specializing in building game engines. i may still use c++
  2. hey a challenge i can do :). games are my speciality :) judging from the 1.10.08 date you have set im guessing i have until oct1 to finish this game up huh? i think ill go with a futuristic/fantasy setting. ive got a small backstory already. though ill probably just use the goal. ill have to start designing enemies and rooms asap so i can set up the random room generator. if ive got the due date wrong let me know cause i dont have time this week to work on anything. since im still learning c++ and dont know enough to really make a good game ill have to resort to blitz basic once more for a txt rpg.
  3. i think your bashing this too much. after reading this im gonna get one of these. ive been looking for something to replace my notebook. and after reading this i checked it out. its exactly what im looking for. far better than what ive got now and its less than half the price.
  4. if youve seen it you can get the mp3 from pandemic for free http://www.pandemicstudios.com/mercenaries/index.html http://www.youtube.com/swf/l.swf?video_id=...;fs=1&hl=en
  5. ill have to try this. if nothing else just as a way to recover or a way to run my stuff on a closed off box.
  6. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/338134 this is by far the most original flash game ive played. its simple. you code the ai to a "bot" and let it fight. the coding interface is a simple if/then statement based drag and drop interface. anyone who has used any programming language will be able to understand it easily and will have a lot of fun with it. edit if you want to get started easily. here are a few simple bots to start with sentry C8024ECE8F4141E53889D25F7123D62BCE25 essentially will wait for an enemy then follow and attack them rouge hunter 0E2804E17C085F3CA853A3927A3ECE987AA9CA285A27037B focuses on killing and winning. it will run around the arena until it finds an enemy or item. it holds enemies as a higher priority so if it finds both it will attack the enemy before it goes for the item. sentry mk2 09024ECE8F4141E5207F352BDE65102BAD708BAD70A56AA stays in 1 place and scans in a clockwise motion for enemies. it fires on anything it sees. scoreBOT E52250C2AC020D3B633DBC887AA9342A6037DB7D7 similar to rogue hunter but holds items as a higher priority and will attack while running from an enemy. designed to win by score instead of by kills.
  7. exactly lol. these shitty security measures wont do jack. it will still probably be within a week.
  8. dunno about yours but mines not that big. and if nothing else i can heat up the tip of the plastic tube and widen it.
  9. this is pure bs honestly. i dont like the idea of it and if its not expressly stated in the eula im more tha willing to bet ea will get their asses sued majorly. i predict a cracked version of all the games within a week of their release. i dont pay for pc games. i dont pirate. i just play the free to play online games or open source games. the only game company i would consider paying for is id software. they seem to understand how piracy is and some of the source to their games is included when you pay for them. they even have a game thats totally free. wolfenstein enemy territory. totally free and source is readily available. even the quake engine they use to make their games is under an "open" license. they do things right. and i have a lot of respect for them. basically if its not on console and isnt by id i dont pay for it.
  10. you may have had a ps2 one. but the one i had was for the origional playstation years and years ago. big grey box not the new ps1. it didnt have the pause switch your talking about. i would have killed for that.
  11. whats your favorite console accessory youve owned? personally mines a tie. between the gameshark for the origional playstation(plugged into the back of the console) and the mad katz controller for the genesis. i loved the gameshark for the origional playstation because it didnt have the bs cd swapping soft mod like setup. you plugged the square block onto the back of your playstation. it had a switch on it. if it was turned on then it would load the gameshark bios instead of the playstations. in this you would pick your game and the codes you want to use or enter codes. then just choose play game and it would load the disc in your playstation. none of the cd swapping and waste of a memory card slot. the mad katz controller (which i still have) is the coolest turbo controller ive ever owned. its physical size was a bit larger than the standard controller but with good reason. it was a turbo controller. but ive never seen this setup in any other controller. its got a switchboard on the top (still on the front with the buttons and everything. just above everything). its got 7 switches with 3 positions for each. it works simply like this. the first switch is slow motion. cheap slow motion though. the switch has 3 positions just like the others. the first one is off. the second is 1 and the 3rd is 2. basically 1 is low slow motion which is closer to normal and 2 is slow motion. the way it works is depending on which setting you have it set to it will repeatedly pause the game and start it again. but the cool part is the other 6 switches. 1 for each of the 6 buttons(each switch affects an individual button). the 3 positions are off, turbo, and auto. off means the 6 buttons work like they should normally. turbo sets the button to turbo so when you push it it works like a normal turbo. then theres auto. when you flip a switch to auto its like your holding the button in turbo mode. if you have a game where you have to push a button quickly you could flip a switch into turbo mode and set the controller down and win. this controller made mad katz my favorite 3rd party accessory company
  12. if theres anyone out there wanting an atari 2600. ive got 2 and im willing to sell 1. the only problem is neither have the tv connection box thing lol. but you can get those of ebay easy and cheap. if anyone wants to buy ill put it on ebay with 2 controllers (ive got aroud 8. 2 regular joystics, 1 arcade style joystic(with the ball tip), paddle controllers(somewhere), and 1 flight sim style stick.) of your choice. and ill send it with any games i have multiples of as well as a few of your choice from the list. just post here if your interested. ill list all my games(besides space invaders. thats one im keeping) and you can pick 5 or so. i want the spare cash so i can get a sega master system and some games. since ive fixed my genesis(bad connection on the board. lil soldering fixed it) i want to get a different system. and since master system is extremely cheap and tons of games out there i'd love to finally own one.
  13. my nex quit working years ago. so a bought a generation nex. it works with the exact same controller. takes carts for both nes and famicom, and has a retro look. and since i can use my real nes pad its still got the retro feel to it. but im a sega fan at heart. i would love to play my genesis again (its not in storage. its got a drawer in my dresser dedicated to it). my only problem is i dont have the av cables. and the rf switch i have doesnt work. so the closest i can get to that old feel is wii virtual console with the classic controller. i dont have the spare cash to spend on av cables for my genesis 2 though. i have quite a few old consoles but its not easy at all to get ahold of games and cables. ive got cash but living expenses are too much. though my atari 2600 is in working condition and ive got everything i need for it. i may just pull it out and have some fun.
  14. yeah thats what i was thinking about. im gonna try to get my hands on a cheap ass bic pen. the kind you can pull of both ends and have a hollow tube. try to get the laser in one end with wires leading up to the top. have the remaining parts of the mouse on one end and the laser on the other. and super glue or something the laser in the tip. or i may extend the wires about 3 ft or so and wrap them together and have a wire going from the pen to the mouse which would be in some kind of case then from that to the comp via usb.
  15. thats the idea lol. if i succeed ill post instructions.
  16. in no real order atari 2600 (2) game gear (sega) gameboy (original fat) gameboy pocket DS lite Wii PSP ps2 psone NES NEX (kicks ass http://www.playmessiah.com/products/classi...me-console.htm) SNES N64 dreamcast genesis XBOX (original) id like to start collecting some of the classic games and consoles if i can get the cash. starting with sega master system. i'd kill for "the angry video game nerd"'s collection. damn. http://cinemassacre.com/AVGN/Nes_Nerd.html i use the term gaming rig very loosely Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation Processor: Intel® Pentium® M processor 1400MHz Memory: 512MB RAM Hard Drive: 39 GB Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 Monitor: Default Monitor Sound Card: SigmaTel Audio Speakers/Headphones: Basic Laptop Speakers Keyboard: dell usb keyboard Mouse: logitek mouse Mouse Surface: Anything that works. love optical. 17. sux he's leaving. some of the stuff he did was pretty cool and it will be missed. what would be nice is if one of the fans of hak5 had a good enough camera and the skill and would start modding and submitting it. darren said it might be included if its of quality.
  18. oh yeah haha. spent most of my time in algebra coding simple games to play on the calculators lol.
  19. dude if your going to waste the time to type up a post on a topic in reply to someones question you should at least for the sake of your own time actually post something useful. i honestly dont give 2 shits about weather or not you are better than me. idc if you have some elite $34536 pad or if youve got 30 $4k boxes in a mansion. i didnt ask you to brag about your shit. i asked a legitimate question because i feel like modding something and ive got more than enough of what i need to do it more than likely. and i'd like to turn them into something useful. i didnt ask you to waste both my time and yours. use the time youve got to do something constructive not offer useless advice and brag about your shit. the internet may not be serious business to you. but ive known people who made their living off running websites. who live comfortably and do nothing more than mess with some html and php. the internet is providing jobs and access to jobs and applications. its connecting people across the world and advancing technology. if the internet hadnt been created technology today would more than likely be no better than it was 8 or 10 years ago just because of the easy access to information and quick communication. weather the internet is serious business or not depends on what you do with it. you apparently just waste the power it gives you as well as your own time. and i know what most people who are confronted with the "why are you wasting your time on this? do you have no life?" argument. they all say "what about you? making such a big post just to point out im wasting time." yes im wasting time. its late here. i dont feel like working on anything. im bored with games right now. everyone i know is asleep. i cant sleep and i dont have to get up til 9 am. ive got nothing better to do than make this post. at this point i doubt anyone will be able to actually provide me with what i was looking for originally. it would be great if someone could but it doesnt matter. and hell someone posted something pretty kickass (not you of course.) so this topic was a success in my opinion. wasting your time and acting like your better than everyone doesnt make you 1337 or any other bs like that. it just makes you a dick with too much time and money.
  20. thats just awesome lol. if i can get my hands on a webcam then ill be making one of those. still looking for the optical mouse ting though. mainly because ive got plenty of them.
  21. before i say this i just want you to know this is meant as a compliment not an offensive thing. youve got a whole dracula vibe going.
  22. find a mod someone does purely to make something look cool? post it here http://metku.net/cryo/
  23. okay i will probably do that at some point but i just want to make something clear to everone who plans to answer dont go on a rant about how crappy this mod would be. i know that already. i want to do it for a few reasons. i want the ability to make basic sketches. all i really want is a mouse with a pen shape. that would work perfectly for what im wanting. yes having pressure and speed and ect and ect. would be great but not needed. and i also want to do something like this to get better with mods. get some more experience at it. not to mention i wouldnt mind playing an fps with a pen mouse. hell im willing to bet just using a pen mouse would speed up everything i needed a mouse for. i could get a wacom. sure. but i want to do this myself if i can. thats why im asking about this.
  24. whats the simplest, easiest language you know? personally mine is blitz basic. ive seen people post a large piece of pseudo code to give the general idea of something and it would work put straight into a blitz basic compiler.
