  1. As far as I see it, I'm still a hackling and always will be. Proud to hold the title.

agreed, I see nothing wrong with hackling, especially since its (from where I stand) never been a insult to anyone.  I just thought it was a name for community members, and newcomers alike.

Maybe im wrong, but does this seem to be a little to PCish for anyone?

  2. Internet Explorer >6.0 (which im being forced to use now.. and have 3 windows open just for it)

    the general public

    Best Buys 'Geek Squad'

  3. Help, im a n00b and i cant get up! lol.

I dual boot Mandriva and WinXP. Every so often (about a year) I feel the need to reinstall windows and clean it out. So I did that today, tweaked a few things, installed drivers and rebooted.. only to notice that my grub wasent there! I dident think that installing windows on side of a partitioned drive would wipe out the boot loader, but i guess it did. Does anyone know how I would install a bootloader with out having to reinstall another OS?

  4. Still need to reinstall that OS.

If it's windows, Agreed. I usually need to reinstall windows every 9 months or so. Nothing too much against windows, but ya know, it just cant handel long term use with out breaking

  5. Thanks for the response.

Um... Wouldn't it be easier to just use secure services, and maybe sniff some traffic yourself to see just how much at risk you are when you can't switch to some more decent protocols?

Ive been donig this some today, and I finally found something that can secure my ftp traffic, and Some time ago I switched to google mail (from yahoo, because they send pain text pws), but what about securing things like my school login (just a mail server) or hak5? Or even AIM traffic (that one, i dont really care about, just curiuos)?

I know the best way would be to just not do these things on public networks, but is there a good way to secure it?

  6. I recently bought web hosting through bluehost, and after exhaustive research on setting up an SSH server I am still at a loss. I am trying to set up an SSH server on my hosted account to tunnel normal traffic through. I am mostly on University networks and do not like the idea that any one of the few kids sniffing traffic could get my logins. The problem I am comming up against is that most of what I find for SSH servers require physical access, I only have Shell access. Anyone know a tut or program that could help me out with this?

    Additional Info:

the web server is running CentOS (free redhat)

and I am wanting to tunnel web, and ftp traffic

    thanks :D

  7. Im coming to the end of my 2nd year at my university. I have been double majoring in psycology and computer science, Psycology because I am highly intrested in it (but see no real long term future in it), and CS because I could really see myself doing something in that field.

    My question is:

 if you have completed some sort of higher education, what was the concentration?

 What Degree(s)/ Certs do you have?

 If you could do it over, would you pick the same thing?

 And for those not quite there yet, what are your plans?

  8. I finally decided to make a real website for myself, but after signing up with bluehost.com and uploading my pages I realized that the bluehost symbol was showing up in my url bar, and that got me thinking...

    What is that little thing?

Does anyone know how to change it?

To clairfy what im talking about, its the little symbol (for example the '5' in hak5) that is directly to the left of the url, in the url box in the browser.

  9. I think its kinda neat idea, You could use LFS (linux from scratch) to assist you, I think it woudl be a pretty kewl to make a hak.5 linux live distro. I would help!

But if this was to be done, it woudl have to be done amazing like, and have something new. Hak.5 is big, we dont need just some hak by themselves to create a distro that sucks and call it hak5.
