  1. I've never had to forward any ports to port scan an external IP, you shouldn't need to either. Remember, these are outgoing packets, not incoming. You should only need to forward if your gateway/firewall is configured to only allow outgoing packets on certain ports.

Unless you have access to configure QoS to prioritize you on that wireless network there is nothing you can do.
  3. Try this. That will increase the output power to 500mW from 100mW. For some reason it defaults to 100mW every time it is initialized under Linux.
  4. Why would that have any effect? ITT is not an accredited institution. Very few of their course credits are transferable.
  5. I'm pretty sure he means the 'Pineapple' SSID and not the device.

  7. Clients are not secured, the AP is. If a client sends out a probe request looking for a secured AP that they usually connect to the Pineapple will respond saying that it is that AP. Since the Pineapple is not secured the client will be able to connect to it anyway (no authentication required). Test it out sometime and you will see that this works, I have tested this against several devices that only connect to WPA2 secured wireless APs and they connect without issue. Not to mention that the client would know that you are not the AP they are looking for when their session handshake fails if you were to attempt what you are suggesting (its an encrypted session, you cannot fake this).
  8. You obviously do not understand how this device works. It tells every wireless client that it IS the AP they are looking for. And what would be the point of securing it, it is a honey-pot. If you already have the credentials for the AP you would be targeting you wouldn't need the Pineapple.
  9. The quick start guide warns against changing network settings for a reason. In any case you should be able to find the correct serial adapter for cheap in your country and then you can flash it. If you cannot find one they are fairly simple to make. EDIT: Glad to see you got it working again. As for the signal issue, have you done a site survey (use Kismet or Inssider) to check for other APs that could be drowning out your signal?
  10. You should always have an antenna attached when transmitting, transmitting without an antenna attached can damage the radio.
  11. You don't need the credentials, the client will connect without needing them.
  12. Sounds like you're going to need to get one of these http://www.data-alliance.net/-strse-710/Developer-Kit-for-Hornet-dsh-UB/Detail.bok and reflash it.
  13. Well upgrading the firmware did not fix this. EDIT: Got it working. Had to disable the Pineapple's firewall and the ethernet cable goes in the PoE port, not the WAN port.
  14. See for yourself, its setup properly. http://i.imgur.com/YM5Fz.png EDIT: I just noticed that the MK IV came to me with firmware 1.0.2 on it, going to upgrade to the latest and see what happens.
  15. I've been trying to get my new Pineapple MK IV to tether to my laptop (sharing the wireless connection via ICS) for internet connectivity with no success. I have followed the instructions included with it and it just will not get internet connectivity. Is this currently broken?
  16. If you had the 16dBi yagi attached you need to be aware that antenna is directional. I.e. you point it at your target.
  17. It is possible. Although I have overheated my Fon 2100 many times and it still works fine. You may want to open it up and check for burnt chips and bulged capacitors.
  18. If you've gained access to the router you should be able to sniff every packet that passes through.
  19. Not true, that will only help prevent the DHCP server from assigning an IP address. An intruder could still set the IP/subnet/gateway/DNS manually and gain access.
  20. ITT is not accredited, in fact they were raided by the feds several years back for claiming just that. They are a for-profit institution and they pressure their instructors to pass the students through so that they can continue to receive the students Pell Grants and federal student loans. You would be much better off going to a community college for certificates (you can get these without losing financial aid now) and getting either an AA/AS or transferring to a University. The cost of going to college actually comes out less. EDIT: Here are a couple links about this, you can find many more with a Google search. Stay away from for-profit institutions at all costs, they exist to make a profit and are almost never accredited. You could print out your own degree and it would be worth just about as much. http://certcities.com/editorial/news/story.asp?EditorialsID=571&page=45 http://www.ripoffreport.com/adult-career-continuing-education/itt-technical-instit/itt-technical-institute-ripoff-apf66.htm
  21. That GPS is for a car, you'll need to get a GPS that has NMEA output (USB, Serial) to the computer.
  22. Not legal no matter how you candy coat it, unauthorized access is unauthorized access. The only options you have at this point are to litigate or let it go. That company also happens to own whatever you guys have been paid for, and if they have someone else continuing from where you left off that new code does not belong to you. I hope your friend has kept track of all hours that were spent on the project, how much he was paid and how much he is owed. He also will need copies all all correspondence with that company in order to prove that they wanted him to continue working. In the future he should remember to renegotiate contracts when a company changes hands or name. One other option would be to start collections proceedings, however I would speak to an attorney before doing anything.
  23. Make sure you plug the ethernet cable that is attached to the pineapple directly into your computer when you flash, otherwise it will not work.
  24. If a machine has been compromised you should physically disconnect it from the network ASAP.
