  1. Thanks to everyone for the great ideas. I think im going to build another computer. But im going to dedicate it to the protien folding, and maybe a tor server. Im definately going to put two hd's on a switch so in one position you can boot to one O's and the other to another O's. then have a third that houses a filesystem to be used by both Os's. Though unpratical I find the almost mechanical switching cool. One last thing though, I have a few mobo's in mind. but if anyone knows of a great mobo that is under $100 with a socket for a P4 adn 533bus just post it and ill check it out.
  2. Pretty interesting article. I get the gist of waht they are doing. But a question arises. They are atacking the anominity of the User right>? But why is the paper called unwrapping the onion>? I ask this becasue, it appears that they arent actually figureing out the ip address of all Tor clients but rather only those who directly connect to their tor server initially and then out onto the web and not to another tor server. "First Queue Interesting Data" 1: All outbound packets destined to port 80 which are not going to another tor node. 2: All inbound traffic originating from port 80, and not form another Tor node. so this model suggests to me that it only can find the ip of: client(target) -> tor server(IP_getter) ->web and not: client(target) -> tor(server) ->tor server(IP_Getter)->tor->web or client(target) ->server(IP_Getter)->tor->web or client(target) -> tor(server) ->tor server(IP_Getter)->web I could be misunderstanding the paper so if you can clrify please do so. but it seems that if it isnt keeping track of any data comming in from another tor node or going to a tor node....the it misses those anonmous browsers....its not really unwraping the onion but rather sliceing off a peice of it. again if i jsut missed the concept please clarify. thanks
  3. oops forgot. BOB: make a computer out of it and allocate it to the great causes that hak5 usuers currently support What would you suggest, Do you have anything in mind>? Becasue I'd love to contribut to the community.
  4. I've already done a few neat externeal storage/media devices, but another one might be cool. I actually built a NAS as soon as that episode (thanks HAck.5 team) was released, but decided an NFS was what i actually wanted, so i went with that instead. I already have a Linux Server, and a couple of routers to manage, so awsome idea but right now having another sever is pointless. The media center is a great idea....but i just went out and bought a new HP media center (replace the last one i built that got fried, FRIED = BEER + MOBO;) with a core duo (the 5000 whatever model) and a 512 radeon(PCI EXPRESS) with crosfire.....something pro i cant remeber. And a few other goodies (20 in wide screen plasma :) ) I like the Idea for the practice box, but i usually just run a virtual configuration on the machine with the NFS on it. though maybe media center for my car isnt a bad idea.... thanks for the suggestions! Keep em comming.
  5. I already got a multi screen setup for development on a windows box and as for building a computer for a family member/friend, i dont have any who are in need of one or dont own something better. I like the idea of the software raid, but i dont have any use for it really, not with the NFS (props to cooper) and servers that already exhist on my home-network. but a great idea none the less. And my appt. has AC so i dont need the fans for that (LOL). I am really looking for an all encompasing project. thanks for the ideas though

    NFS Help

Hey I'm looking to set up an NFS. Not finding too much useful out there for tutorials. I have an old gateway 1.8 P4 with 2 300 gb hard drives and 512MB ram. It's connected to a Linksys router (switch). Its got a bare bones version of XP running on it now, but I can install a linux distro on it. ->Looking for an easy to impliment solution that will allow multiple Os's to be able to access the NFS. ->Also looking for some instruction on configureing the NFS itself. Any help would be great. Thanks.

  12. I was thinking that instead of trying to gain sysadmin privilage why not simply wait for the sys admin to logon. 1: place usb in back port; 2: have the code in usb wait till sysadmin logs on and then execute. 3: disable popup alerting to presance of usb 4: retrive flash drive when sys admin is nolonger at the target pc. Is this feasible>? If so does someone want to see if they can develop the code to do it. I just dont have the time at the momnet. thanks for your replies
