My DVD player decided to start acting up recently, and I was looking for a combination DVR, DVD player, digital converter box to replace it with. I haven't been able to find such a device, and I was wondering how hard it would be to build one out of an old-ish Pentium 4 machine I have. I was thinking Linux base for the operating system, are there any Linux distros specifically made for this purpose? Would I need a new tuner card to be compatible with digital TV(I have access to several that were removed from dieing or dead PCs)?

The bridges are NL-2611CB3 PLUS(DELUXE)s. The processor is a Ubicom IP2022/PQ80-120. The wireless cards say SL-2511CD PLUS EXT2 (F200) (TRANZEO) CYLFP. They use external antennas, and the wireless cards have two antenna ports the same style as on any internal laptop wireless card. It would be nice if I could make wifi pineapples out of them, but I don't think it is going to happen.

Yes, I have, but when I try cross compiling for arm uclinux I receive all sorts of error messages and don't know enough c to understand what they are saying. It may be something as simple as needing the correct libraries for arm uclinux, but I don't know where to get those or how to incorporate them into the code.

I'm trying to restore a LapPro 386SX. It has a bad HDD and battery. I can live without the battery, but I need a hard drive that it will recognize. I know it will recognize 100MB or less. Does anyone have a working HDD of this size?

I haven't taken the time to learn C and C++ yet. Could someone make or point me in the direction of some ports of WEP cracking utilities, etc. for ARM uClinux? I was thinking the aircrack suite would be nice.

Hey guys I'm trying to learn to cross compile some code to ARM uClinux so I can run it on my Nintendo DS using DSlinux(a port of uClinux). I haven't taken the time to learn C yet and it is killing me. I probably should have started with something mare simple than aircrack, but now I really want to get it working. I was able to reduce the number of errors by adding a line to include sha-mmx.S that was mentioned in the makefile. I don't know if this fixed the errors or if it just covered them up with new ones.
Compile command:

I have only modified aircrack-ng.c. The other files are in their original form as found in the 0.9.3 release of the aircrack suite. I am using the arm-uclinux-gcc compiler found at codesorcery.com.

For those of you who didn't read post #11, I could not run anything even in safemode. I ran a repair from an install disk so no data was lost and used Combofix to find the responsible files before they were reactivated.

It sounds something like a virus i have removed before called SecurityTool. I would suggest booting into safe mode and see if you can install the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, found here:

If you can, scan the computer with it and see if it picks up your virus.
If that doesn't work (a long shot), go to the msconfig and remove all entries (in safe mode). And then, reboot the computer and see if the virus has stopped. If it has, you know that the problem is in the msconfig. Then, gradually readd entries one at a time so you know which entries are the virus entries. [/Quote]
It is not SecurityTool, I have dealt with that before. I regularly use Combofix and Malwarebytes; between the two of them they catch almost every virus I have come across. What makes this bug so bad is that explorer and taskmanager are disabled in regular mode and safemode, and CMD doesn't start in safemode with command prompt, making it impossible to run these tools or msconfig. I was able to fix the problem by booting an install CD, pressing ENTER for install, and then R for repair. Now I am running Combofix and Malwarebytes to remove the viruses before they can ruin the new Windows files.

Yes, I didn't realise that the amount of RAM was that tiny, and that is with an expansion. I wonder if it would be possible to make a larger expansion.
Could someone point me toward help for compiling for ARM processors, I wasn't thinking last night and tried to run regular Linux binaries on DSLinux. I am using Ubuntu so if someone could tell me what packages I need to install and where to find instructions to use them it would be very helpful. My searches for compiling for ARM came up with mostly results on how to compile Linux for ARM.
The source code and compiler are not agreeing, and I'm no C buff. Could I get some help?

He probably specified a certain directory that he wanted to copy, such as the User Folder (My Documents, etc)
I don't know about you guys but I don't have more than 32gb in my User Folder. (Then again I don't have alot of pictures.)
Its a autorun.inf file on a usb driver that when the usb drive is connected it would run the autorun.inf (Much like a CD when your installing a game)
The autorun.inf would list the batch script as the first thing to run and then it (the batch script) would run and go through the script that you wrote.
Allowing you to do anything from copying files to deleting the System32 file (If you have administrative access, ergo the user could think it was something else and run it as administrator cause you created a readme of some sort and set up a legit looking directory :D).
Its very easy to do.

They have to be command line tools. The GUI on DSlinux is extremely unstable. Maybe I should mention I'm working with 18192 kb of RAM. I saw somewhere that the wireless card doesn't capture enough packets to use Aircrack, but maybe that was just part of the suite.

I work at a small computer repair store. Lately we have had several computers come in with a virus that prevents explorer, cmd, and taskmanager from running. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Hey would it be possible to install BackTrack ARM on Nintendo devices that run on ARM processors(DS and Wii). There would probably be quite a bit of tweaking to be done, but after it is accomplished someone could have a very innocent looking hacking device. Both have wireless capability, and the Wii would great for setting up when you go to a hotel, etc.

Hey there, the small company I work for provides internet to customers via point-to-point wireless bridges. We have quite a few units that have started to malfunction. Inside these units are laptop style pci wireless cards which I believe to still be good. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to turn these cards into usb wireless adapters?

In the case of the smoker's computer, it was too late to see. The nicotine had clumped the dust in the processor's heat sink, causing it to overheat and die :( . It is very hard to clean computers like this one when they come in. The nicotine and tar from cigaret smoke make a gummy mess that attracts dust and doesn't let go. We can't just blow them out with an air compressor like we do with the ones that are full of dust and/or roaches( :o Yes, people have brought in computers infested with roaches).
