  1. I have a feeling with where tablets are going that not many of the new ones are going to support windows.
  2. I already have the monitor and that utility looks nice but I use ubuntu
  3. So I have a monitor in my dorm room across from my bed so sometimes I want to watch hulu then go to sleep but I can't because my monitor will stay on afterwards. Any ideas. My ideas: Make an android app that sends a message to my computer to start screensaver.
  4. I want to share some of my folders on my ubuntu desktop via FTP and was wondering whether I should make a lightweight vm to do it or just install some ftp server app and run it?
  5. I've been interested in trying to figure out how to do some real-time transcoding to downsize video files on the fly and play them back on my android phone. I read the Mencoder and vlc documentations and am trying to figure out an open source method and i don't mind setting up an apache server and writing some code to get a web interface. Any ideas?
  6. So now there are a few options for Android phones on AT&T there's the backflip, htc Aria(tiny), unlocked Nexus One, and the Samsung Captivate(Galaxy S for AT&T). I am deciding which one to get and it's pretty much between the Nexus One and the Samsung Captivate because of obvious hardware reasons. The main differences I've seen so far is the screen(Captivate has a 4-inch superAMOLED), Samsung has Bluetooth 3.0. The Nexus One is already compatible with Android 2.2 however. I also heard that AT&T is limiting customers to the Android App market, I am not sure the consequences of this so if anyone could enlighten me that would be great. Share your opinions.
  7. It sure does, thank you very much. I'm just trying to figure out what card fits my needs.
  8. Is there any other reasons than security. I would definitely like WPA2 but realistically I don't need extreme amounts of security for the purpose of my network and my environment.
  9. What would you advice for a home network. If you had a smoothwall router like the one darren built would you put wifi into it or buy a wireless N router and hook it up as a wireless access point? any other ideas post below.
  10. Does anyone think a new android phone compatible with att will appear in the next month or two. I think unless apple has a surprise up there sleeve I'm just going to get a nexus one.
  11. When I use my mac I use Things the GTD todo list organizer. The app is really great but now that I have my ubuntu desktop and my hp laptop I need something more flexible and something that autosyncs or is located in the cloud. I'm not too fond of google tasks and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on something that could better integrate with my systems.
  12. My at&t contract is up for renewal and my parents say we are staying with at&t so I am debating whether to go with an android phone or an iphone or maybe even a nokia n900. I was wondering if anyone could help me make this decision. Edit: Just realized n900 has no 3g on at&t?

    Vps Tunneling

I'm presuming I should just forward ports on my computer then.

    Vps Tunneling

I have cox cable internet and was thinking of renting a vps somewhere and was wondering if it would be possible to use a dd-wrt router to tunnel certain traffic through the vps in order to have encrypted traffic such as torrents, irc, ftp etc.

    Router

I get 75 Mbps down and 8 up and part of the reason I want wireless is for transferring/streaming files from my server to my laptop so it needs to be fast enough to do that quickly. Can a cheap router do that?

    Router

I'm picking a router for my dorm room and have 3 major options in line. The router is for my dorm room's internet and to hook up my desktop/server to my LAN. I need to be able to hook up my Xbox 360, Desktop, roommates desktop all up via gigabit ports and my macbook pro and various other wifi devices need to be able to be connected via wifi. The Macbook pro is N-enabled. I would like some pretty good control on packet management and definite flexibility on setting up proxies and port forwarding. Any other ideas you guys suggest I'll look at option 1: Get a flashable wireless g router for cheap then buy a gigabit switch option 2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16833122326 option 3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16833122334 which is flashable with dd-wrt I think option 3 looks the best but I definitely want your opinions.
  18. The speakeasy test gave me 36 down and 6 up to dallas which i think is still really good
  19. I'm not quite sure how to check. I mean if I download a file off the net it doesnt move that quick but that might not be my lines fault.
  20. I just decided to get cox cable instead of the universities wireless so i bought a Motorola SB6120 and got there preferred package here in Louisiana. I was expecting 12 Mbps down like my friends but when i speed tested it i was utterly surprised with a 60+ down speed. Upload isnt that great but wow for that download.
  21. I was wondering what everyones opinion was on these phones. I really liked the way the n900s OS looks like and think it would make an awesome mobile device.
  22. That's an awesome idea thank you so much
