  1. How do you set up an ftp server in ubuntu? edit: I have an entire partition I would like to give it access to.
  2. So the box is built and is running flawlessly. I was wondering what would be the best way to access my media remotely. I have ushare so I can access it on the lan but I want away to upload files to it and let my friends upload files to it from anywhere. And it would be cool to allow anonymous downloads with a max download cap.
  3. web clients work.. Changing the ports do not work and for the rest i need a remote host don't I. I can continue using a web client but i would prefer to just use xchat or something.
  4. I think my school is blocking irc but I'm not sure, I just know it works at home and doesn't work here. I was wondering what would be the best/easiest way to circumvent this issue if i didn't have a remote server and what would be the best way if i did.
  5. I remember when i had synergy set up with my mac as the server using synergykm i could switch the key presses on the different screens but now that i use synergy+ on my Linux box I don't know how to switch the keystrokes on my mac so the Ctrl, alt and super keys are freaking out. Any help would definitely be appreciated.
  6. Thanks I think I'll just use it till someone tells me something.
  7. I moved into my dorm room which has free wifi. In order to use cox cable internet your supposed to have to call for them to turn it on and pay a monthly fee. However i plugged a cable modem in and internet worked fine. I called and they said i already had internet and i would have to go there to disconnect it. I can't drive to the cox building and was wondering if it would be illegal to just use the line that the previous owners turned on.
  8. good luck this is my first year of college.
  9. My resolution is to get more motivated, get a job, code more, see my girlfriend more, get my license and get a 4.0 for the semester.
  10. I have an apple keyboard but I would prefer using something different for the linux machine I am building. Does anyone know if you can configure a logitech g19 in ubuntu maybe using a vm or something? And are the logitech g15 and g19s lcds programmable in linux. Anyone have another suggestion for a high performance keyboard with backlit keys. Keys that could change colors would be cool and it must be ubuntu compatible.

  14. I was wondering if anyone knew of any software which puts your HDs to sleep if they're not in use and if they overheat. And if the main HD overheats it shuts down the system and notifies me via email.

  17. I should definitely use the 64-bit version of ubuntu right?
  18. @foo I just checked the newegg reviews and a techgage article and both used the xms3 with the same mobo thanks a lot because that would've sucked. @h3%5kr3w Well I thought about that but since it will be my main linux box and only desktop.(main computer is a macbook pro and otehr laptop is a old HP) I figured it would be nice to have something that could grow for a long time and eventually be used as a gaming machine and all-around dekstop. Next semester I will finally have a job so i will be able to afford upgrading the ram to 12 gigs and then 16. I think I will get the gskill ram then. As soon as I get my first paycheck I'll buy a new video card and hopefully a modem and router.
  19. Bunch of LEDs, arduino, some lil stuff for projects
  20. I will eventually upgrade to either 8 or 16 gigs of ram but right now I can't afford anything more than that above. Same with the processor I would love an i7 and i may get one next year but I am a college freshman so money is definitely an object.
  21. Well wih any web enabled cell phone you can access the internet anywhere. You don't necessarily have to go with a phone as beefy as the droid(even though it is great). I don't see why you really would want to hack the droid for your needs though unless you wanted tethering or something. You are correct about the zipit only allowing accesss in wifi hotspots but I'm not positive but i think the z2 may have adobe flash in the browser which to the extent of my knowledge the droid does not but should get it sometime next year. My advice is get some web phone not necessarily the droid but a web enabled phone.
