alright ill try that at home.. the thing im going to try first is see if i can pop it in a carriage and pull all the files off i can. I mainly want only two folders of convention videos and pics. if i can get those ill just wipe it and reinstall

i boot the live disc and it works perfect but if youre talking specifics, IDK, i booted it and walked away. I was thinking of installing ubuntu to the other partition to see if anything can be done. I was told that I COULD do a fsck /f /hda/sda1 (or w/e it is) BUT that could fuck it up more

So a few days ago, I was using Gparted to resize some stuff, I had my 142GB windows xp partition and a free 157GB free partition i wanted to add to it, I formatted it and it started to resized, it said it would take two hours. well I had some other stuff to do so i clicked cancel and the cancel anyway to stop the process and then exited and restarted. But then my windows wouldnt boot. It sat at a black screen. I sat there like WTF. I restarted the computer twice and the same thing. I popped Gparted in again and the windows partition is still there but w an exclamation point now. It says that I need to run chkdsk /f as theres an I/O error. I tried putting in my SP2 disc but right after it says "Windows is scanning for hardware configuration" it just goes black and sits there doing nothing. I know the disc works because I tried it on another computer right after this one to test it . And that is the disc I used to install windows on this computer. It also does the same for a SP1a disc BUT it boots for a windows 7 recovery disc (that one I just had lying around for another computer job, it wouldnt work as is made for an hp). So I think ok, I have to reinstall, I HAVE to get my files offf though as some are irreplaceable. I boot an ubuntu live cd and try to access my files and i get a cannot mount error w the same thing run chkdsk /f. So basically I cant access my files no way.. It wont boot XP disc for recovery and ubuntu cant do it.. IS there a way to access my files? Can anuybody tell me why its not booting my discs? Would an external carriage do the trick? I just need to save these files thanks

fixed Still, I think mirroring and maybe a keylogger on YOUR companies computers isnt a bad idea

Also, why not question her why she accessed a level 4 computer w/o authorization. It might be late but just say "on our monthly audit, we noticed you had accessed this machine and copied certain files, why was this done?" she'll know shes in trouble but if she thinks she can lie well enough she'll be good to go. Also, can you make a clone of her HD? its YOUR computer, you can do what you want with it ie: hardware keylogger

damage a file or two in her computer or fuck w her account to the point she needs to contact you and you need her password

i installed the gateway recovery program but everytime i restart after selecting it from the thing it doesnt boot the recovery program dammit all to hell

ive checked processes ill try the user profiles, and ive tried system restore, im pretty sure this kicked up after SP2 came out for vista

because god hates me when i do what the link says, it comes up "the installer could not be accessed" i know its there and everything it just doesnt wanna work... help?

the alt f10 doesnt work the f8 does but its not in the advanced boot menu, is it possible to add it? i know i have the 7gb recovery drive ive seen it and all, but its not selectable, i got this off a friend 3 months ago and never needed it, i cant see how it could be removed..

ya its a gateway p6860fx gaming laptop

So one day Im using my computer and the next day less than 24 hours later i boot it up and its SLOW so SLOW, i mean 10-15 too boot when it used to take less than 3. To do any thing is killer, if i leave it on, i can get a burst of speed for about 5minutes but thats it. When i got to safe mode though, its faster. I think its the video driver as one of the boots into normal it said that my appearance setting might be too high and be slowing my computer down, i doubt that as its been like this for at least 4 months. Now, before this occurred for about a week, everytime i rebooted id lose my usb, wifi and ethernet drivers. They worked in ubuntu and provide power (as i used a fan pad under it) and it got pretty annoying but i know everything worked still. SO should i just reinstall? I dont have the disc, and the recovery drive is not an option on the advanced boot menu, otherwise i would reinstall, is it possible to add this option back? thanks guys

hmm... this could be the problem, there is no netbios in it...

ya it just updated last night and i reinstalled the drivers for shits and giggles And no, I deleted macafee and it still didnt work before or after No programs that i have would mess it up, I have dyndns and filezilla

Whenever I try to create a new VPN connection (havent made one before) i get an error that it cant and to check the event log, and when I do i get "\SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\netbios.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver." Ive googled it and cant seem to find anything on it, I havent touched anything network wise nor the drivers so i cant seem to think of anything wrong, I did get this from a friend (see my trading computer thread) and everything else network wise seems to work.. Any help?

ok, cuz you said 3yrs and in 07 so.. but ya, have you tried all drivers and everything? and some people on the forum at hp suggested it could be cheap/bad wiring
