Migas68 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Hello everyone, I apologize if I have missed a thread where this has been covered and appreciate your help and time ^^I have this card and I could set the tx power on windows 7 and after installing windows 8.1 pro I cannot find this option anymore, help ?I think there is an option to set the tx power even higher, anyone know? Problem I have is when I use windows 7 in VMWare, for some reason there isn't any tx power option, maybe only when it's installed as host? Also I have other questions regarding finding wpa key, can I post it here? cooper Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Last question first. Sure, post it here, where "here" can be "this thread" as well as "a new thread within this section of the forum", depending on how related that question is to the topic we're discussing here.As to setting the transmission strength, one major part is the region the card is told it's in. One possible factor is 802.11d which you probably want to be disabled. It's what helps the driver find out where it is and set transmission strength and available channels based on that. IEEE 802.11d-2001 is an amendment to the IEEE 802.11 specification that adds support for "additional regulatory domains". This support includes the addition of a country information element to beacons, probe requests, and probe responses. The country information elements simplifies the creation of 802.11 wireless access points and client devices that meet the different regulations enforced in various parts of the world. The amendment has been incorporated into the published IEEE 802.11-2007 standard. This page deals with turning that ON for a Surface Pro and should help you to figure out how to turn it off just the same (if so required). Also, when you're looking at the device properties, see if you can set the domain you want the device to think it's in to something else since different parts of the world allow different maximum transmission strengths. You can see the values for the various countries' regulatory boundaries w.r.t. wifi here. The way to read that file is that the first section is the frequency band (from - to @ channel width) followed by the maximum strength allowed in that region. People seem to like setting the card to Bolivia (BO), but going by that table I would think Taiwan (TW) would be the better choice. Quote
Migas68 Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Thank you very much for your answer and time. I can't seem to find those options for my wireless card, I think I've already found those options back when I had windows 7. Anyways I have these 2 handshake captures I did and I have tried using OclHashcat + a 15 gb dictionary and I couldn't find the key, maybe I'm doing something wrong? http://www.filedropper.com/pailhoe8-39-df-39-48-32 <a href=http://www.filedropper.com/meo8e5dd358-98-35-8e-5d-d3><img src=http://www.filedropper.com/download_button.png width=127 height=145 border=0/></a><br /><div style=font-size:9px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;width:127px;font-color:#44a854;> <a href='http://www.filedropper.com'> >upload files online</a></div> <a href=http://www.filedropper.com/pailhoe8-39-df-39-48-32_1><img src=http://www.filedropper.com/download_button.png width=127 height=145 border=0/></a><br /><div style=font-size:9px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;width:127px;font-color:#44a854;> <a href='http://www.filedropper.com'> >file storage</a></div> Quote

cooper Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 The book "Windows 8.1 In Depth" says you should look at the "Advanced wireless settings" of the device for the regulatory domain. Looking at the device driver guide for Windows 8.1 if your radio supports that 802.11d thing, the official driver is required by Microsoft to state this and chances are in that case the OS will prevent you from messing with the value. Migas68 Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 http://prntscr.com/6ch7ud I think it might be something like this, but I haven't seen any performance improvement. Quote
Migas68 Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 yes... I have no clue what it means either... Quote
