n-quire
Yes. I'm an idiot. I changed my root password on my Kali box... and then forgot it. I can't believe I was that dumb. Maybe it's a good opportunity for me to try to crack or brute force the password. But before I do that - is there a "factory reset" feature? Or would that require a clean reinstall. cooper
Try a live CD, mounting the harddisk and changing the shadow password into one you know from another machine. If you don't have another machine, add a new user on the live cd, set its password and then look into the shadow file there to see what the blob is to copy over. digip
Do as cooper said, but also, kali works like most linux and ubuntu systems for recovery, boot in and set the session to RW mode. Works on most all linux the same(usually) https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LostPassword
