Opkg didn't have gcc/cc and there isn't an instance already installed. I tried searching for a solution, but seemed to only find dated posts. To answer your question, I wouldn't necessarily want to compile anything on the pineapple. I was trying to install python parimiko with the python pip installer and it attempts to compile some crypto libraries, thus my search began.
