Hi guys, I recently provided a post about a CGI error that I was receiving but I think I discovered the cause. Unfortunately, it leads me to a much larger error. My MarkIV pineapple cannot connect to the internet despite the setup up being just like the one described in the Windows OS tethering wiki. The victims computer cannot connect to the internet either. They cannot ping the wifi pineapple despite being connected to the wireless network "Pineapple0e:93" and they cannot ping out to the internet. I'm stumped as to what the cause is. I think it is a networking issue but I don't know where to begin.

What is the cause to the disconnection and how can I fix it?

I apologize if this is a really newbie question but if you could help me out it would be fantastic. :)

The info is a follows:

  • Pineapple Hardware Version (ex: Mark III, Mark IV, etc.): MarkIV
  • Pineapple Software Version (ex: 2.5.0, 2.6.4): 2.7.0
  • OS used to connect to the pineapple: Windows 7
  • Network layout of how your setup is connected (including IP information): 172.16.42.1/42 like Wiki
  • All the tools/options that are running on the pineapple when the issue happened: N/A (Default settings)
  • Ping results from computer to pineapple: Successful (on both Victim and Host comps)
  • Is the problem repeatable (Yes/No): Yes
  • Steps taken which created the problem: Connected Pineapple, accessed web GUI
  • Error Messages:
  • Error connecting. Please make sure you have a working connection! <---From Pineapple
  • Error 105(net:ERR_NAME_NOTRESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address <---From Victim's Chrome

I had many similar issues attempting to keep everything in the native WindBlows (sorry, freudian slip) environment. I finally restored to using vmware (in this case vmplayer-free) and a copy of Backtrack to implement the configuration using the wp4.sh script.

I was immediately able to connect (I think that there are some additional server/service issues in WindBlows that you do not get in Windows 7 without get the server edition), and have complete control of the networking information needed to use the Pineapple. An added plus is the ability to use Backtrack along with the Pineapple. That's a Win-Win.

Thanks for replying.

@JimJensen: Unfortunately, my pineapple still work, even with a default gateway. It won't ping or traceroute, I'm not sure what's the issue here.

@LinuxDad: As for the copy of Backtrack in VM player, in order to get it operational would you need to bridge the connections between the three connections (pineapple, VM, internet)?
