barrytone
I could get flamed for this, I don't know... But what does everyone think of http://try2hack.nl ? I've heard a few people say that it's too easy and not realistic and various other things along those lines... But I thought it was actually a good bit of fun :) I'm not sure it's all THAT easy either. I've got to level 10 and I'm stuck. IRC is just not something I'm very good with. CTCPs, CTCRs, Eggdrops... It's all foreign to me :P Have you tried it? What did you think? What level did you get to? How did it's challenges stand up to the high caliber hackings around here? (Any anyone wanna help me figure out what I'm doing wrong with level 10? haha)
PoyBoy
well, level one took all of 15 seconds to find the super secret password in the javascript. On to level 2...

armadaender
I've been there before. I got to level 5 or 6 (can't remember) and got bored with it. I've seen more realistic "hack me" sites before that were a bit better but I can't remember their urls.

metatron
These types of sites are ok for killing some time but are way too easy and 9 out of 10 are pointless. You would learn more from picking up 10 or so boxes (dumpster diving) and building yourself a small network with a selection of operating systems and setting up your own mock corporate network, running everything from mail servers to VOIP servers, then you can test attacks and techniques to build up your skill set. PoyBoy
Hey metatron, how do you recomend controlling all the computers? One big ethernet KVM switch that will do about 12 computers? I only have room for one monitor keyboard and mouse.

n3xg3n
www.hellboundhackers.org (very good, though the SS is on a which hunt for the leader [Long Live Mr_Cheese] for no apparent reason, all he did was teach, nothings come of it yet) www.hackthissite.com and a few other startups

barrytone
And I'v given up on level 5 becasue VB 3 programs don't work on XP and nor do VB 3 decompiler -_- What rubbish. If you can't even google for the vb3 runtimes and get the decompiler to work, I'm not sure you're gonna be much good at the rest of it :P j/k ;)
