Dual boot, have both, or virtualize and run side by side at the same time, meet all your needs.

I find running VMs a lot easier to manage than having to dual boot into an operating system or another. Go into VM, it will benefit you a lot more. If you want to have multiple operating systems running at the same time.

Edit: For the OS part, you can have Windows Server 2008 for the host operating system, and Ubuntu server running off a VM.
