Mat
There's a difference between hacking and cracking. There's no legitimate reason to need to do what you are asking, so I wont help you.
Jason Cooper
VNC is probably not the best tool to do that if you want to be extra stealthy, unfortunately for you (And fortunately for the rest of us) the programs that do work stealthily are usual picked up as a trojan or spyware by antivirus software. Of course that doesn't stop you writing your own or modifying an open source alternative (e.g. tightVNC) to do what you want.

Iain
Isn't it illegal to access someone else's network without consent - even if the network belongs to a mate and it's done for a prank?
dr0p
Isn't it illegal to access someone else's network without consent - even if the network belongs to a mate and it's done for a prank? In the US and UK, yes... and I'm assuming he's from one of those countries.
steve51184
we're both from the uk and he's in my house sat next to me so i only want to do this on MY network via the local network/router
3w`Sparky
google mast hard vnc, trial version that will do a quiet install, it requires you to have the local username and password for that system.
steve51184
that's not what i need as i have access to the pc as i own the pc (and the network) what i need is a way i can install the server on the pc with out them knowing so the anti virus (avast home) wont detect (if it even does) it and that there is no icon in the system tray and also no pop ups saying that someone is connected to there machine (if any)

Please explain WHY you want to be able to remote view and control another computer without the operator of that machine being aware of it, and I'll gladly tell you how to make it happen, unless doing so is illegal in your country of residence. Oh, and a response along the lines of "I dont have to tell you why I want it" will just mean that you dont have a legitimate reason and you are trying to do something blackhat without the skills needed. steve51184
like i said it's my pc on my network and it's a pc MANY other people use.. i have my own pc and i "guest" pc of sorts.. anyway it'd be nice to not only see what people are doing on there but also update it and run virus scans after they have been using it.. and maybe to odd prank or two ;)
Mat
Exactly, so you have no requirement for a stealth install then do you? Just install it yourself right at the keys, why would you need to deploy it in a way that the user would be unaware of it? If one of your friends says that they dont want to use your machine because there is a VNC icon in the tray, then that's their prerogative and their right. If they dont want their personal banking details to be seen by you when using one of your computers, then they should be able to make the informed choice to not log in there, do you not agree? Instead of arguing about the validity of the question, the submitter should have just googled it. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=silent+remote+install+of+VNC In our techy computer-nerd world, the answer to the question of "how do you xyz?" or "why do you want to xyz?" is always "because I can". That is the second most common answer to these questions, next to "42". Enough with the moral arguments.

Jason Cooper
you guys aren't getting what i mean but thanks for the help ;) Try explaining what you mean again? But from what I have read you have already had the answer, it just involves work on your part (I.E. creating your own or altering an existing one to do what you want.) Mark
If you own the PC, you can install it and then i believe there is a registry hack to hide the icon and then move the start menu folders?
