  1. rtsp... I had a thread about this a bit ago. VLC kinda crapped out on me because I think my rtsp (if not all) stream was real media. SUPER (Google it) will save and possibly on the fly re-encode the stream.  Should work if you run windows.

  2. I've never seen torrent, but I thought they just did segments of shows. What I'm trying to get is people's reason behind why they do shows amongst other things.

Also, from now on if you are solid in the fact you'd be willing do do some footage for this project, pm me. I take it you are thetron, so I shall add you now

  3. Well, this morning I was watching a few Hacker Documentaries from a folder on my hard drive, and wondered whether or not I should include such pieces of IPTV like Hak5's Pure Pwnage episode in the documentary folder. Then it hit me. Why isn't there a documentary about IPTV yet?

The main premise is to be an informational video about why people got into iptv, how they do it, etc. It would be very easy because IPTV hosts just record themselves. All they would have to do is record themselves for maybe 15 minutes answering questions made in an interview style, perhaps discussing iptv terminology, how it has evolved etc.

I have recently partnered with Cody P Christian, and he has agreed to do all the editing while keeping a neutral standpoint, and not favoring any shows above others. Cody has worked in film and production for years, and has also had prior experience in the field of documentaries. The way this will all work is the Raw footage will be sent to him via the DV tapes (For best quality), or can be dumped on the filmer's end, encoded, and then uploaded to my / their ftp server. A standard for this encode will be discussed below. DV tapes are much prefered, though.

What I need from you guys, the iptv fans, if your ideas for questions, and basically what you would want to see. I'll need a list of questions for the iptv cast members to answer, what you want to know about, etc. Just think of what questions you would want to ask members from your favorite show about how they do it, and respond with them here.

Constructive criticism is encouraged. Nothing is set in stone. I'm also asking if you are an iptv host (Or know one), and are willing to be in this project,  let me know so I can make this more of a reality, and have some people backing me when I ask members of all our favorite shows.

    Video requirements

    A standard of 4:3 720x480 NTSC

Anything above this is fine, 16:9, HD, etc

The prefered encoding if DV tapes are not being sent is h.264 or Mpeg-4.

Xvid and most other standards will be fine, they will just require rencoding on my end.

People who have signed up to be in it

Kudos, and thanks for reading this

  4. It seems to stop going for me at a place that says "Debian GNU/ Linux Unstable version" or something like that. My tv cuts alot of it off though, so who knows if there is a place I need to type something.

If I could some way obtain the NetBSD distro, that would rock too, but if I've already pressed my luck too much, don't worry about it

  5. I have a build of Linux I did years ago. I did set up a torrent a while ago for some people but I am unwilling to waste resources to seed it at the moment and I’m not willing to host it on one of my servers. If anyone wants a copy of it just give me somewhere to upload it. I will not waste my time uploading it to a free service as it takes to long, so if you have a server I don’t mind but if not it’s not going to happen. I also did a build of NetBSD if anyone wants that (the same conditions apply).

I remeber when you set up that torrent, it didn't work at all for me. Wish I had a server, but alas I don't.

  6. As a huge fan of what you could call classic gaming, I'm all for making the most out of your legacy gaming hardware, and enjoy exactly what you are talking about. The only problem is that I do not see it in Hak5's nature. I see alot of Hak5 segments as extensions of themselves. Like they acquire items for day to day use in their personal lives and want more out of them, or face problems that a segment is born from with a fix. This also makes alot of the segments quite contemporary (though no material is time sensitive). If you can understand that contradiction. Sure the information is there and applies, but (I know these are really extreme and demeaning examples) it would be like a segment on over-clocking a P2 or how to RAID some  floppy drives. I know that the Dreamcast is not near as old, but with 200mhz processing power and a total of some 24mb of RAM, the junkers I pick up for a few dollars a pop on the weekends would be more up to par to play doom and run Linux.

The Dreamcast launched in 2000 but was discontinued in 2001. Despite being previous gen, its not as well appreciated by gamers. What are the odds that a Hak5 crew member has one such console to play with. What about the odds a viewer has kept theirs after all these years, or just skipped it holding out for their PS2s. Sure, they could ebay, but what is that saying about the target audience? And the network adapter itself is a hard to find item it seems nobody wants to part with, easily matching what you pay for the console.

I personally am all for a Dreamcast modding segment, but I have learned to not get my hopes up in such situations. Another iptv show, BSoDtv will be airing one soon, so if you can hold out for a while you won't be disappointed. I will use that link of your's though, and if you happen to be able to point me to a bootable Linux image for the Dreamcast, all the better. I wish it was all in the cards.

  7. OK Guys, was sat watching the hak5 live rc1 and was listening about the community projects, and suddenly an idea popped into my head a rather stupid one as i would have no chance in hell in making it as i don't know the first thing about it, but I'm sure one of you guys could take it under you wings if you wanted that is of course.

The Idea is what about making our own

I liked that part of the topic, but none of the other stuff. Everyone who uses the Search function so they can check to see if there has been a linux distro topic, because there was like five and everyone searches before hand, Note the above so when you want to start a cool project you can use this above block of uber awesome text as a guiding helper dealy.

  8. This dude named Paul Slocum uses an assortment of 8-Bit hardware to produce tones to create music, including the Atari 2600.

Also, BSoDtv did a few segments involving alternative uses for the Nintendo Gameboy. There were tone dialing applications (DTMF, and prolly some redbox tones) also, the infrared port on gameboys allows for the transmission of signals of the spectrum which they mentioned the use of wargramming with.
