  1. If you are using a router to connect your 3 computer together all you need to do is connect the cable modem to the router.  Otherwise you need to set TCP/IP information for the LAN connection manually, and leave out a Gateway and DNS.  This way whenever you need to connect to the internet it will use the cable modem.

  2. IF your looking to have fun then i would say go for it.  But if your looking to salvage a SD card then your wasting your time.

I would just crack it open and look at the contacts and trace them back to a point that is solderable.  you might be able to find some really small switches that you could use to replace it, or just hardwire it as unlocked.

  3. Thats a really hard problem to stop.

Make a program that deletes all the .exe files off of the removable drive when it is inserted?

only problem with that is if they rename the file and copy it somewhere else and change the name...

you could also just find a handfull of kids that are doing it, give them a month suspension from computer access to make and example out them and then mabey people will be to scared to run there own exes?

  4. Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share my coding project.  Im coding a program that run in the tray as a monitor for F@H Service.  Right now it pretty much a controller that allows you to Start/Stop/Pause/Continue any service.  Im starting to finish up that part then im going to work parsing the UnitInfo/FAHlog files.

I think im also going to add option to install the console since there really is no installer for it, this might be tricky since Im not sure how FAH make there configuration files and what not.

Im looking for suggestions, ideas, and people to beta in a couple of weeks when i finish this.

BTW im coding in "Visual Basic Express 2005" which if you haven't checked it out is a really powerfull language with a lot of features that make it really easy to use.  It is NOTHING like VB6, this makes VB6 looks like Quick Basic

  5. Hi Guys,

Im currently in the proccess of coding out an application that will allow you to control F@H services.  Im hopefull that I will also be able to add some monitoring capabilties to it as well.

If anyone has some code, ideas, questions, or interest in Beta Testing send me a PM.

  6. What thickness of plexi-glass would you need to make it able to hold anything rack mountable?

I would say at least 3/4", but you could prolly do like 1/2" if you support it well.

i was thinking of using the frame from a mattress and sand blasting it and milling some holes in it

  7. Actually its safer to use random numbers in letter.

Someone one could do a 1337 sp3@k dictionary attack if they wanted to.

Just use things like random serial and model numbers from stuff you don't do use anymore. (i.e. not they model number of your monitor)

  8. those pictures give me nightmares.

I had a summer job of basically ripping out all of the cables in a rack and replacing them all, and organizing them all.... it was such a pain... especaily when all they had was like EIGHT FOOT PATCH CABLES, that was annoying

  9. Words of Wisdom: Tech people are just regular people that know how to find and read documentation.

The best thing you can do is READ THE DIRECTIONS.  Even if its for a product you will never use, just read the directions and information about the device or software, you will learn a lot the will apply to other devices and software.

My dad rushes through everything and the gets pissed when it doesn't work.  Then i have to read the directions for him and fix it.

If people only took a few minutes to read the instructions and try and understand what they are doing instead of just jumping into a project you will get it done a lot faster and you will only have to do it once

  10. If you have the phone number than you can do a "reverse" phone search just google it.

If the persons number was blocked when they called you, either *69  or if its important the phone company

Its also possible that the number will be listed on your bill.

Cell phones are hard to look up because they aren't listed in the phone book.

You can try doing something like a reverse phone search which will tell you the subscriber and then going to the subscribers site and try searching for it

or just googling the number it might be on someones myspace or other public profile

  11. There is actually winxp powertoy called timershot that will take a jpeg at specified intervals and either save them as a date_title.jpeg or overwrite the existing one.

I had one of my front yard and used a meta-refresh and put it on my background so i could watch the driveway

  12. the main problem with something like that is unless you make a specific WAP/Router for this, everyone will be connecting there own router with DHCP on and a million diffrent gateways to the internet,

Also everyone would be connected on a LAN like system that would make it really unsecure.

    It would be a nightmare.

This wouldn't be too bad if you wanted to share your internet with a people in your dorm or your neigbors, but they would need to be people that you trust

  13. Basically Its Just a large touch screen that responds to a stylus like a palm pilot. (The callibration is very similar)

The Stylus has a button that activates when the tip is pushed down so that rubbing up against the board won't activate it.

It also has buttons for right/left click also in most cases.

Then all of the information is sent to the computer as a mouse input over a serial or usb connection.

Features like writing on the board no matter what is open are done using a program that open up an invisible window over the screen.

If you want to make your own the easiest way to do so would probably be with a webcam and a laser pointer like this http://muonics.net/blog/index.php?postid=15
