Arch Linux for the desktop. I have a macbook but have a few different Linux VM's on it.
Linux certainly does have a rival in the server arena, UNIX.

She could be my Linux tutor any time :)
Translation : Her popularity is not based on her Linux prowess.

Having knowledge bas is good, but that's not what this "expert system" is. It's pure hand holding. Knowledge bases are only effective if you already know where to start looking.

There is a reason why tapes are still widespread in their use, including Google.

I am a big Fan of Sophos but it might be overkill for only 10 users. For large corporate networks I have had great results with it.

If I had to rely on others to repair my hardware and they used this, I would be very afraid.
As just a side business you might find the occasional odd issue but I still wouldn't think you would need something like this.
As a sysadmin and having worked in enterprise environments for some time, I would fire anyone under me who had to rely on this in any way to do their job, and would shred any job application that referred to its use.

Nixie tries but there isn't much substance there.

I really need to make a torrent of the live episode, pretty sure I have them all.

I use ESXi for my home virtualisation platform, my only gripe with it is that you have to use a Windows machine for the vsphere client as it does not run on any other platform (WINE either FYI). I run it on a dell Optiplex gx 620.
I haven't used ProxMox but I have heard good things about it, and tbh I would rather use ESXi at home as we use it at work as well.

It sit's on the network and monitors the web traffic going in and out.
http://www.websense.com/content/web-security-gateways-overview.aspx
It reveals quite a lot, the CEO who left before I started was lucky he left when he did and the staff in place at the time did not run regular reports. You can put everyone through a proxy and capture it all, and they wouldn't know any better.

Com'n now.. dont hate on Australians! :) I hate Russian IP's a lot worse.
I'm an Australian so I'm speaking from experience. My isp has redeemed myself somewhat though making our quota 1tb per month.

I like websense for internet monitoring.

I have recently moved to an new employer who had Dell as their hardware vendor. Now overall I feel the HP stuff is better made but Dell have performed admirably, and I would have to say the customer service I have had from them has exceeded Hp in most aspects.
To reinforce the points raised in here, if they want ultra cheap go the NAS route but my recommendation is to but an entry level server from Dell or HP. If you're just helping them out you don't want to be tied to supporting it especially if hardware breaks.

I wish I was allowed to outsource the training. I have to write the training manuals and make the videos myself.

I could do more but this will do for now.
- Stupid end users who don' listen or do as they are told
- Having to use Windows when there are better alternatives
- People baching windows like a zealot after using Linux for 24 hours. I agree Linux is better, but let's not turn into mac fanbois)
- Mac Fanbois
- People who bash Mac OS X, or any other OS for that matter without trying it.
- Backtrack. Why? Because I have spoken to dozen upon dozen who now consider themselves pen tester because they have run a Nmap scan.
- The town I live in, which means I get paid half as much as others do in the capital cities.
- I never fully learnt a programming language.
- Stupid people.
- Record Companies.
- Australian ISP's.
- Young people who don't give a thought to the political direction of their respective country.
- Outlook.
- Iphone mania.
- Stupid end users who don' listen or do as they are told

I don't blame kids for trying, they always will. Schools seriously need to pick their game up as far as security is concerned. I work in large enterprise environments and to be honest not a lot changes. People are always going to try and get around the rules, you just have to be vigilant, implement and enforce intelligent policy.

It's ok, at least you tried. The one I linked is pretty simple. Let us know if you have any trouble.

If you can keep them to a small size, maybe use roaming profiles(i'm not a huge fan of them but they can have their uses) for the students throughout the school. Use group policy to restrict their access and depending on how often you have to mess with machines maybe develop an SOE image for your hardware.

X11 forwarding, in my opinion, is the best solution there is, unless of course being able to ssh out is blocked.

Without sounding like a prick that took less than a second of googling. I like to help people out though, but maybe a little more effort champ :D

I would love to read it, but I can't stand the schoolgirl fetish crap.

I love both, but there is no question British humour is superior to American humour. It is far more clever.

Vegemite is in the elite food group, accompanied by Tabasco sauce, beef jerky and steak.
