  1. icall used to work well, at first it offered unlimited calling for no time limit then it went to 5 minutes, then now it is 5 minutes for only toll free numbers. skype gives unlimited time for toll free numbers

icall is nothing but a scan and adware now

  2. while it is always good to get free money, it will not help the economy in any way

the cure for the economy is the recession, it just hasn't gotten bad enough to send a message to the stupid people

the economy is failing because people are not buying as much

people are not buying as much because prices are too high

the government giving people free money will only cause the economic hardship to last longer because people will be able to afford those high prices for a few days or weeks.

the best solution is to let the economy get worst, then when prices come down far enough, the economy will become strong again.

remember prices go up but not salaries

eventually things get too expensive as the goal of a business is profit and greed, eventually the greed gets to a point where people no longer want to buy things

while the recession will bring down falsely inflated prices, to bring the prices of the rest of the products we buy to a affordable level, it will take a harder recession and government fines for companies that refuse to lower prices.

remember economic problems are like a traffic jam, a truck will flip over and block the road, and people will be stuck there for hours. while the problem can easily be fixed by having everyone reverse far enough to take another road, unless everyone wants to reverse, everyone will be at a standstill.

in cases like this, the police will come in, and go to each car and make them go back far enough to take another road but with out the police stepping in, the idiots will just stay there for hours honking their horns acting like the truck will magically fly away

the government needs to make every connected company lower prices.

you cant sell a mp3 player for $50 if your supplier is selling it to you for $60

every company down the line has to lower prices so the consumer can afford the items in the stores

and just like how the police will force every car to reverse if a road is blocked, the government needs to do the same thing with these companies.

and the only way to prevent future recessions is for people to stop being stupid, just don't accept higher prices, if something you buy goes up by 5 cents, don't buy it, don't think, "oh it's only 5 cents"

because 5 cents becomes 10 cents and then 20 cents, and so on, it is like a lazy person who says "I will do it tomorrow" well tomorrow comes and goes, and he says "I will do it tomorrow" again, and before you know it, it is 6 years later

stop the problem at it's source

consumers feel that they have no choice and no control over pricing.

they need to learn that businesses will charge what there willing to pay for

when we have idiots who are willing to spend more for the same item, then businesses increases the prices and everyone suffers

if you choose to buy a product at a higher price, then companies will constantly increase their prices to a point where most people cant afford them and the economy goes into a recession.

only accept lower prices, and accept sale prices but never accept a higher price, even if it goes up by 1 cent or 0.005 cents, don't accept it

if people stop buying products when the prices go up by any amount, then the prices will not change, and any item that goes up will most likely be right back to the normal price with in a day or 2

  3. I was wondering are there any places that sell heatsinks designed for cooling things that are 1cmX1cm in size and theres about 0.5cm of space on each side of it

I have a heatsink for the CPU, but i don't have anything for one of the smaller chips (if anyone can recommend some, it will be a great help)

and this one hits 47-50C depending on usage (can go higher if I am downloading torrents )

  4. if your isp cant provide the bandwidth you paid for then call them and tell them to fix it, if they don't then switch to a isp that can

you shouldn't have to suffer because your isp got greedy and oversold their service

  5. but there is 1 problem with SSD, they give no warning when they are dying, they just stop working

since they use flash memory, you basically see the problem as it working fine 1 moment and the next it is dead or most of the data disappears

  6. he is using the built in wifi card on his laptop so i think the transmit power is capped

as for the antennas. he is using the wires that came with it, since there short he just mounted the router on the inside wall so it would be closer to the antenna since the wire is short

he said that the wire is only like 2-3 feet long

  7. no one owns the internet and you can "plug" in directly

you just have to find out who is the bandwidth provider for your ISP then just contact them and get a direct connection for your self, you will get better speeds that way

ISP's mainly just buy a super fast connection then partition it off and sell it to other people in order to make profits, the problem is isp's are generally greedy and will start selling bandwidth they don't have

thats why with some isps' you will see your internet speed drop by like 80% in the afternoon.

comcast is known to do this

so wouldn't you want to have all that bandwidth to your self instead of having it shared with like 200,000 other people?

just know that the monthly fees will cost you your arms and legs + arms and legs that you don't have, and then some

but if you get the same connection that your ISP has which it uses to share with all other customers, you will be able to download files much faster and torrents will work great and you will get much lower pings because you will skip much of the lag from going through a ISP

  8. Not sure if directional antennas will work due to the location. was mainly wondering if anyone has tried using a wrt54GL with 2 high gain antennas instead of 1 and if it made a difference over using 1

the reason why a directional antennas wont work is because the area where it will be used will be in more than 1 spot and just having 1 small area get a strong signal wont really help.

I think he is using the built in wifi on his laptop (those generally have poor range but generally having a high gain antenna on the access point will generally also allow it to pick up signals from a further distance.

He also tried using a old 18 inch dish with a wifi antenna glued to the head part of the dish is able to get a good range but it doesn't provide the coverage needed.

the only problem is that those high gain omni directional outdoor antennas are like $60-70 and i don't want to have someone buy one if it wont help

  9. A bridge is always possible, right? Not sure if that will help.

(Don't bridges cut the speed by half anyway?)

wireless repeaters tend to cut the bandwidth in half but but just a wireless bridge if it is set to only use the wireless to talk to the other router then you will get the full bandwidth or the wireless but wireless users wont be able to connect to the second router.

and he cant really set a repeater in the field because theres no power

with linksys the router seems to use 1 antenna to send and the other to receive, even though it is set to auto, thats why i was thinking about adding a second antenna but i don't want him to buy a second one only to find out that it didn't increase the range

  10. I'm currently helping a friend out with increasing the range of his wireless network

he bought a hawking Hi-Gain 9dBi antenna. and installed ddwrt and increased the transmit power of the router to 100mw

the antenna is outside and he wants to be able to access it from a near by field but after about 500ft, from the antenna, his laptop barely gets a signal, it is only around -85dB

I was wondering would getting a second Hi-Gain 9dBi antenna work any better since the router supports 2 antennas?

PS a parabolic reflector wont really work for him due to the area of use required

  11. one way I have found to get extra battery life is to use a os that is less resource intensive when ever possible.

for example on my friends laptop he gets about 2 hours battery life with windows vista, on ubuntu he gets 2.5-3 hours, a less bloated OS takes less work to do the same job so it uses less power)

not sure how resource intensive the mac os is but other than disabling stuff, you may also want to dual boot a less intensive os for use when you know you will be away from a charger for a while

  12. for me, the show is great.

the reason why some users complain is because there expecting giant long episodes filled with hardware and software hacks each week.

even big budget shows cant keep up with that each week. it is just too expensive

it is also harder to push out episodes each week. as theres less time to edit and there isn't enough time to make everything 100% perfect and still live a normal life

  13. yep you can use any browser with it, just know that websites load slower when going through fiddler and many programs such as games, and many other apps that are able to use the internet, will often use your IE proxy settings

this can cause lots of lag for those apps since fiddler has a large performance overhead. try using pandora with and without fiddler and you will see that on a normal direct connection, pandora runs much faster

thats why i disabled the features that allow fiddler to change system proxy settings and manually set firefox portable to use it

that way there will just be 1 browser dedicated to working with fiddler

and fiddler doesn't seem to like having your main browser use it as a proxy especially if you do things like constantly refresh many tabs

  14. I have been using verizon dsl for like almost 10 years, I never knew you needed to install software to use it, the modem/ router handles everything.

while the first modem I got from them was a westell crap that required software to connect, windows had the needed stuff built in and so did many versions of linux (it was just annoying to get it setup.

for internet she should have just called verizon and ask for the free router. they pass out free routers like nothing. when a worker doesn't feel like dealing with you on the phone, they offer you a free router

it is easy to get one from verizon

she is either stupid or lazy or both.

while ubuntu does have it's problems, it does have open office which does most of what ms office does

it is also faster since dell isn't able to install all of their resource hogging crapware on it

and she could have also installed wine it works ok for some windows apps (while it may not perform as well, many of them will work )

for dumber college students, the best OS for them is either ubuntu or mac OS since it is really hard to mess them up.

  15. yay it works again, i thing the config files were looking you items in a fixed path which caused a problem of if a user didn't have a account name thats the same as yours for windows xp, it would see the area as invalid, and since not many programs are allowed to create account while windows is in use, it gave an error

1004 works perfectly now thanks :)

and the ability to manually grab track is better than ever.

  16. the registry files are the same ones that fiddler puts the only difference is it changes the settings that allow fiddler to hook into IE

but by default if you don't install the registry file, the fiddler2 will create the files anyway, the only difference is that they will now be using the default fiddler2 settings

I also tried it with out the registry files (since i didn't save any changes in my virtual machine, i can do afresh start each time,

(for the video recording i used my main windows xp install)

  17. tried recopying everything again still gives the same error

and when the program starts it gives another error

    "Failed to read config file!"

(this error doesn't come up with version 1003)

(happens in both xp and vista)

I will record a video of the problem (including all of the fixes) so you can see if I am doing anything wrong

    screenshot

    10mpztf.jpg

    video coming soon

k the video is 21.26MB in size. the resolution is 1440x900 and the length is 5:15

I uploaded it to mediafire.com as other hosting sites that embed video tend to downsample them and that causes the text to become unreadable
