  1. From ssh machine 1 to machine 2: ssh user@xpmachine2.com -p22 -L 5970:127.0.0.1:5900 On machine 1: You will be able to view machine 2 over an ssh connection vncviewer 127.0.0.1:70 You are first creating an ssh session from machine 1 to machine 2 via the default ssh port of 22. I'm assuming the vncserver is running on the default port (5900) on machine 2. The "-L" bit: You are forwarding everything that occurs onport 5900 on machine 2 to the port 5970 on machine 1. This is your 'tunnel'. Since you have created the tunnel, just run vncviewer on the port on machine 1 - localhost. crap explanation, I know, but im sure other people will chime in. There's another way to to it with ssh, but I used the above because you get more of an idea of what is happening (I hope!).
  2. haha nice idea, i'll try and have a look at this at some point next week.
  3. Here's the rest of it. If you've got time give it a read.
  4. If i'm in London I will definitely make an appearance. I'm not really into sitting around 'hacking' and that but if you do visit a pub I will pop by for a beverage :) Although I have no idea what any of you look like.
  5. You aussies are a chilled out bunch. If this happened in London my house would have been robbed at least five times within the two days away. I would have gone mad-monkey kung fu ape shit on the tradie. haha nice post
  6. mmm that's weird. The reason why I used this is because the program is basically one-click install. Have you activated the user you are connecting as? It's in the copSSH start menu items. Also try turning off the microsoft program protection thing. Can't remember what it is called, dsp? Can a windows-bod correct me on that? Switch off the windows firewall. Try connecting to localhost. Try connecting to the w2k3 machine lan address. i.e 192.168.0.50
  7. Azurues (now vuze I think) has a plug-in called 'Safepeer' if you're after one for a bit torrent client.
  8. copSSH is good. It's one of the bits of software i've implemented at work. Once installed you have to activate each user. Really simple to do. Perhaps it is this 'activation' that you need with freeSSH?
  9. 'reinstalled windows'? god dayum, how the other half lives eh? I would check that you actually have the 'server' portion of ssh on your box. I believe for windows you can get programs that can just connect to an ssh box but not receive a connection. If this is the case I would just install cgywin's port of openSSH. It's what the cool kids use. ;) Give that a go.
  10. Thought i'd post this on here because I was recently looking for a job, took me about 4 interviews. I used a lot of the techniques in it. It's quite a good video. Although it's aimed at mid-level and up (2+ years) experience, there are tips here that can be used for most people. - Put yourself out there - get a net identity. Website, open source project, net-networking (twiiter etc..). I have one and it is terrible but it worked. It is not 'wetelectric' though! - Sort out your interview techniques - eye contact, no sarcastic comments, never assume anything about the people interviewing you always ask - How you dress, i'm based in the UK that means, financial stuff suited and booted, other smart casual. Smart casual means perhaps dark trousers, suit jacket and shirt without a tie. It does not mean blue denim and a t-shirt with a wolf on it. http://vimeo.com/4108726 You know the feeling of wishing you had some of the knowledge you have now years back (in my case 2nd year of university)? Well share the wealth people.. Any other tips those in employ can give to the students watching? edit: nicked it from here
  11. Really good article on a service called Libre.fm, they tout themselves as a Last.fm replacement. Also note the license they use, didn't even know it existed. Might make nice segment. Anyway good luck to 'em http://danlynch.org/blog/2009/05/libre-followup/
  12. Point? Just to see if I can. Probably won't though, lazy. On another note For those looking to buy the eee 1000he Bat life is really good. The track pad is over sensitive. I've got large hands and I can touch type :) The tabbed desktop thing (ubuntu 9.x netbook remix thing) is a great idea. I may use it on my desktop. It's a lovely black, shiny and full of my finger prints. It came with a nice little pocket-case. O.S installed from one of these secure SD cards; everything worked out of the box.
  13. I installed the latest Ubuntu9.x netbook remix. Everything (even wireless and suspend) worked out of the box. :) But..... you need to install g++, ncurses, kernel headers, flash etc.. with synaptic. I programmed today on the bus, yay! --- end my last netbook comment ever
  14. Bought the EEE 1000HE. Might be fun to see if I can overclock it. Really I just want it so I can code when i'm on the bus journey to work.
  15. I've just bought a eee 1000he, does the ubuntu 9.04 work, i.e wireless, suspend mode etc?
  16. mmm they look nice but i'm looking to spend around 300 quid really. But then again I may get the 1000HE for £313... 300 quid to spend on a toy and I call myself working class haha Prawn sandwiches anyone? Edit: Ordered the EEE 1000HE in the end. I'd like to say thanks for the comments guys. Every post was really informative. Great stuff.
  17. Thanks guys, very informative as usual. I find myself leaning towards the eee 1000h. Although I really wanted the ssd (because it's a relatively new toy... I mean tech ;) ), i can live with sata. The keyboard size is a big factor for me, I have big hands and I need to be able to touch type. HP mini? anyone got one of these? Strange though, the XP model price isn't that far off the linux price... something fishy about that.. or am I paranoid?
  18. I'm looking to buy one of the above. Has anyone got one, or both? Any hardware problems I need to know about, for example dodgy left click? Comments please :)
  19. Really weird, just loaded again...
  20. How was it? Last time I went it was just a bunch of vendors whoring their products. Not that I mind but at be interesting. :)
  21. http://www.epenis.nl/ p.s i'm sorry
  22. mmm I guess this is what happens when people forget history. Read up on their local activities in 80s, 90's, come on, being on this site i'm sure you consider yourselves intelligent, cut through the bullshit. Voting for a bunch of knuckle dragging racists because some of the things they say make sense. Nuts. I think Hitler liked books and built good roads wouldn't catch me voting for a bunch of nazi saluting nutters because there are a bunch of potholes in my road. For god sake if immigration issues get you wet vote UKIP or something. I'll give them credit though, they have done a good marketing PR job, maybe the U.S KKK should try the same. Wouldn't suprise me if they did. I believe ol' Nicky and one of the head wizards have met
