  1. ...wow. I remember i used to hide in the dryer when i played hide and go seek with my siblings...they never found me. Of course i never completly closed the door, because that would just be freaky. For some reason I think some people treat babies like dolls, or pets, rather than actual human beings.
  2. Thank you for all of the help guys. I am very eager to learn linux inside and out, however I'm just starting school right now so I don't have so much time. From the very beginning I'll need to be able to type up documents and spreadsheets and have internet access. After that, I'd love to have the more in depth tutorials that I can read in my spare time (haha). And then something else where I can go when i'm saying to my self "oh crap what did i just do?" Perhaps I should go get a book or something that I can keep on the desk at all times. Well, the point is...um...I'd be happy with Oo and Opera. And gaim. and gimp. and a media player. Other than that... something I can learn in my free time, but still use it when i first get it. If thats even possible.
  3. poyboy: I love that wallpaper, i used to have it on mine. Omega_ion HOUSE!!! its like a cult on my hall. they have a shine. i'm not kidding.
  4. yes, the words are very similar, but the meanings are very different. which is why correct spelling is always necessary.
  5. scarcasm- n. When a woman gets so scared she has a little orgasm. Alternatively, a small orgasm resulting from a woman seeing a guy with scars, especially when it is suggested that he got them doing something noble or chivalrous. "That movie was so terrifying I had a scarcasm." "How did you get that scar, Paul?" "I jumped infront of a car to save my friends little brother." "That just gave me a scarcasm"
  6. Yeah, mine is a Dell Inspiron refurb. I think my parents bought it using our business account with them, so that gets them a few more cents off. It was pretty cheap, and I love it, never given me a problem w/ overheating, backlight, anything like that, very dependable. If you were going for games, perhaps instead of a inspiron get a percision. My dad has a M60, and its wonderful.
  7. Well, Todd suggested Slackware, it is how he learned. However, he was learning on an extra computer, while this is my main, and only. So he gave me a knoppix dvd... and here i am. I like it so far, but i got it about 20 minutes ago. I'm using my touchpad, which is behaving super sensitively, but I'll go fix that... if i can find where that is. lol. I'm loving this already.
  8. Laptop specs: Dell Inspiron 1300, 1.40GHz Celeron M, 248Mb RAM, currently w/ Windows XP Home
  9. what are you talking about, indeed. your impudent use of a smiley suggests that you have a fairly good idea about what I am talking about, sir.
  10. gah. ahem. i'm sure you meant ma'am.
  11. Gah. or perhaps ahem. meh, indeed! pishposh and habberdash, my fellow.
  12. yeah, this is neato. intresting fact: even though i am located closer to atl, a-town only clocks in at 1050 kbps, while DC is the fastest, with 1362 kbps. Seatle is 1071 Germany isn't far behind, with 995, and new zealand is 333kbps. hmm. Atlanta is rather disappointing. Any explanations?
  13. Yep, i've decided to make the change. I have a friend who first convinced me that Linux was life and Windows was death, and now he's going to help me jump the linux bandwagon. What finally convinced me was the fact that there was nothing holding me back, I've never played games on this computer, the only type of work I do on this is either word processing or writing Java, which I can do just fine on a Linux. So these are the last days of my windows.... ahem. anyway, to the linux among you: when did you switch, and how did you learn to use it: a little bit at a time, or were you instantly imersed in it, and sink or swim learning? I've yet to decide what distro i would like to have, and i'd like you get ya'll's opinions. -Wallis A right to be heard doesn't include a right to be taken seriously -Hubert Humphrey
  14. thats a picture of my bedroom from earlier this year. reminds me of home and all. so many more open windows there than here...
  15. Thats what was weird to me: I've had it happen on analog, and walkie talkies for that matter, but she was definitly on a mobile. I doubt it was harmonics either, she was in an empty hall, hearing both sides of the conversation, through her phone. It kinda weirded me out, and the girl that was sitting next to me when Kelly related the story. "I sure hope no one is listening in on my girlfriend and mine's conversations" yes, i know you are a lesbian, Skye, no it didn't have anything to do with not wanting to room with you. you always watching lesbian anime porn and listening to metal opera and metal opera had more to do with it than your sexual orientation. also the fact that i know you changed your name from sarah to skye just so your name is skye miles, that probably had something to do with it too. ANYway. cell phone thing....yeah, weird.
  16. I use almost exclusively AIM, because thats what all of my friends use. I have a msn account, i have a yahoo acount, i have a googletalk account, but i never every use them.
  17. hmm, so here I was, sitting in the study lounge of my dorm, browsing hak5 and listening to the electric storm outside, and my roommate came in and related a recent event. "so i was talking to my sister, Carly, and all of a sudden I heard this guy talking to a girl about someone breaking up with a friend of his. I was like "Carley, do you hear that?" then my phone went blank and all i could here was the guy talking, then my sister came back on and asked what i was talking about." Is it the electric storm? the building walls? I've experienced something like this when i was young and scrolling through the AM range on my radio, it was mostly static, but then i heard a voice that sounded oddly like my mother. I was trying to get a better reception, and then i heard my mom coming up the stairs so i yelled at her to come hear this, then she called back that she was on the phone, could i wait a bit...then i realized the radio was actually just from our wireless phone. But that is a local reception to the phone base, this is actual cellphone signals. Has anyone else ever experieced anything like this before?
  18. um, its kosher beer or something. my dad just brought it home from whole foods market one day...googled it: he'brew: the chosen beer
  19. Well, seeing I live in the US, it will be quite a few years until I can go get any kind of alcohol on my own, however my parents agree with me and think 21 is rather absurd, so I do have a beer, or a glass of wine with my parents every now and then. My dad is a fan of Guiness and Harp, and Hebrew beer, so I've had those before, guiness is too dense for me, i prefer harp among those 3. My time spent in Germany this summer had quite a bit of beer consumption, of course. Nabecker Hell is probably my favorite of all, 1614 was good too. Bruckmuller was a local one that I had several times, mostly on tap in restraunts and bars and the like. So thats basically my beer history. I've never even held a bud or miller or hieniken in my hand, much less tasted it.
  20. Yeah, funny thing... I was messing with my bookmarks about a week ago, and...well I'm not exactly sure what happened to them, but they disappeared. So these were just the sites i've added since then, I had a bunch of other stuff, most of it not completely useful. I guess I can just think of this as end of summer cleaning, or something. Note the universities listed are the ones I plan on applying to in 1 and a half years time. Gah. If the application process for uni is anything like it was applying to the school i'm going to now, I'm going to be a wreck!
  21. I always read the material the lecture is about first, and take notes on it, in outline form, leaving some spaces between each section, then when the speaker is talking i don't have to worry about writing down the stuff that i already have, or that i remember is in the book, and i can focus on stuff that he or she is talking about that i haven't learned yet. of course, between the initial reading and the lecture and revisions before the test and such, i usually type the notes up before exams, because a) i learn things from having to write them down, and b)it makes it much easier to study, without having to worry about crosses out, messy erases, shorthand, etc. for a while i would bring my laptop to class and type the notes, but for some reason i just like writing it up on real paper, with a real pen and such. i know, how late 20th century, but thats just me.
  22. I love the ocean, and beaches, which is a great reason why the school i'm going to rocks, its only an hour to myrtle beach...i'll have to plan a trip before it gets too cold.
  23. Well, ahem...Wallis is my first name. The first time i got a screenname for aol when i was 8 or 9 my parents just put wallismdw, mdw the rest of my initials. So that wallismdw is my gmail, just because its easy for me and others to remember. I briefly had whereswaldo812, because i would daydream in class in 7th grade and they would be "earth to wallis" she must be in Wallyworld, wheres waldo?" not so nice if you ask me, wally and waldo are both nicknames i don't really like. but anyway... wallis, wallismdw, whereswaldo812, and i was i have one account (aim, actually) that is justalittletoome, which really doesn't make a whole lot of sense but i'm horrible at making up something creative, and i was listening to a song by bright eyes, saturday as usual, and it goes ...because the worlds become a little too mean... and someone had accused me of being mean, but i'm just a little too mean... but then it ended up justalittletoome because it could only be 16 characters. lol, anyway, Wallis is probably the best i got. plus there are not many people named wallis, i've certainly never met anyone with my name... tell me if ya'll have though, i'd like to know
  24. Well, when i'm at home, my mom's 100% columbian is great... leaving the home, Hot Java is good, Coffee Underground is better. While I'm away at shool, there is really only one option for coffee, that being the Midnight Rooster. They make better tea than coffee though, but there is a strictly enforced no heating element in the dorm room policy, so the rooster is really my only choice.
  25. vako-not one bit. I've haven't had a steady for almost 3 years now...hey , that was about the same time I got seriously intrested in science....is that a coincidence?
