AlmostAdmin
I LOVE Backtrack 3 and coupled with My new acer aspire one, Its almost the perfect OS! However, No one seems to have any modules anywhere for backtrack. The backtrack team has put a lot of hard work into making it a modular Operating system, so whats the deal? where are the modules? If anyone wants, I have made a few modules of my own: Openoffice Gimp Recordmydesktop nessus Adobe Reader pingtunnel putty opera VLC Mozilla Thunderbird secpanel scribus and a few more. digip
where are the modules? BT3 is meant to be a pentesting, lean, uncluttered distro, run from a live disc. Most users arent installing it nativley, and those that do, know how to put the things they need on there. About the only app I ever added to it was Opera. Aside from updating the drivers for my wireless card, it has almost everything you need to pentest a network. Most users will never use half of the things it has installed or even know what to do with them unless they are into network security. BT3 is a good place to get your feet wet though, as I found myself using it more than any other distro I tried and learned a lot more about Linux in the process. Darren Kitchen
You're both right and that's the beauty of Linux. If you're comfortable operating in BT3 as your OS why not add a few features that make it more comfortable. Sure beats rebooting back into Windows/Ubuntu/swanky-FreeBSD just because you want to send an IM or edit a word doc. The more modules the better IMHO. But for now I'll just stick to the module that makes the network and video work on my AA1. ;)
digip
I just run it in Vmware while I have windows open ;) Plus, how hard is it to install something on BT3. I don't use IM clients but I do like Opera's IRC capabilities and use it more and more over Mirc. Not sure how secure it is vs mirc, but I rarely use it unless I am on Hak5 or another network downloading files(Legit ones, of course).
