Gaming and college firewalls.

So basically I just want to be able to play Counter-Strike 1.6 and Source occasionally. The server list shows about 100 servers even though thousands of CS servers are available. When I try to join one I instantly get a message through Steam that says the server is not responding. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

This is due to port blocking, if you talk to one of the guys that manage the network they usually have a proxy you can connect to in order to make it work (this is the legal way of doing it).

If not its time to do some tunneling...

Where i study they don't have any proxy for gaming so its all LAN or thou a ssh server but that gives alot of lag..

we have to run our ssh servers on port 443 to be able to connect to them from the network, all other ports are locked down.
