External URL from nano

Using URLSnarf I realized that nano access this url from itself times and times. Is that correct? 
I had no chance to go further but it logs my source IP from some reason ?
GET http://cloud.wifipineapple.com/ip.php HTTP/1.0

Hi Ramoeg, 

That URL is a hold-over from when we used to display your public IP in the webinterface. We / modules developers often still use it to check if there is an internet connection. 

We do however not store your IP. We just echo it back to you.
