Authentication problem for open network

Good evening,

I upgraded my nano via the web interface from version 1.0.2 (I think it was this one) to the latest one 2.0.2. Before everything worked nice, but after the upgrade I am not able to connect to the open wifi, the "victim" one, anymore. I get an authentication problem with android and windows. That seems to be really strange since the network is open.

But I have no problems to connect to the administration network and to configure the nano. I also did a reset via the web panel, but no success. Do you have an advice for me how to fix this problem?

I made a firmware recovery, but no success either. Here is the debug log. I am not a pro in this subject so there could be something important (removed the AP list):

Do you have an advice for me how to fix this problem?

Its not a bug, in latest Firmware release the default setting of the Client filter is set to "Allow mode" so requires MAC addresses of devices you want to allow access.

This is a wise move from the manufacturer as this actually puts responsibility back to the user to use the device legally out of the box. And some new users may not have even known what they were doing.

It can be changed and you can still allow any device to connect... but thats on you, not Hak5.

I thought using a password is the only way for an authentication, but a MAC filter is also one... Does the AP returns the reason for the authentication error (wrong password or wrong mac address) or no detailed information?

After changing it it worked again. I will read the changes more carefully in the future.

Thank you Just_a_User :)

Hi,

For me its not working at all, both open AP and management AP.

Tried everything, reflash firmware (2.0.2), factory reset, changing Client to Deny Mode, adding MAC in allow mode,...

Always get a "Authentication Error" when connecting via WIFI. Tried with Android, Windows, Linux, IOS,....

Frustrating,...
