Shinobi
Is there a way to get a linux terminal from the seriel port of the machine. So I could simply plug in a console connection for example and use a terminal program to access the machine?

cooper
Way back when I had a couple of DEC vt420 (I think that was the number) terminals attached to the serial ports of my computer. They were pretty cheap too. A mere 15 guilders (so under $10) if I came to pick them up. The main reason I got them was so that if I were messing with the network, and needed direct access to the server to set stuff up, I could simply use the terminal rather than hook up a monitor (this was before LCDs were everywhere). All you need is an old vt100 or compatible terminal, a serial cable and a power plug.
