Jamo
Im going to buy some sort of wlan AP/router. First I was thinking for buying asus RT-N16 or NetGear WNDR3700, but then I remembered that Darren has build router from motherboard with multiple lan ports. He used smoothwall, if I remember correctly. So what kind of motherboard/device I should buy? any ideas? ParMan
i would check smoothwall compatibility list and then just pick the motherboard what will work the best. but the most important part is the NIC. i actually use pfsense but i spend about a month making sure all the hardware would work. then i found the machine on ebay. for 300 and picked it up. justapeon
Openwrt has a version for x86. Even works in a virtual machine last I tested it.
Infiltrator
By the way, here is a list of compatible hardwares that is supported by Smoothwall. https://support.smoothwall.net/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=280&nav=0,22 Ideally you want to go with small form factor mobo, like a mini or micro-atx board. You don't want something, that is taking up to much room and consuming lots of electricity.
