  1. I'm not even entirely sure what the deal was. Like I said though, it was killing it upon Windows bootup, so I'm wondering if there was something in the Registry that was conflicting with the drivers, or not allowing them to properly load. I ran Eusing Registry Cleaner on it a couple times, and the keyboard issue is history. Multiple reboots and shut downs since, and it works fine every time.

Don't get me wrong, I still think something is wrong with Windows. CPU usage spikes to 100% on explorer when the mouse freezes. He's done a reformat once before, but we're ging to try it one more time to be sure, since it's been a while. I'm thinking maybe he did more of a recovery vs a reformat.

  2. So, I'm working on a mouse issue for a friend. H has tried numerous mice(all USB), and as the same problem with them all. It freezes for a second or two every so often for no reason. He's even gone as far as to reformat and reinstall Windows XP. We've tried updated drivers, virus scans, malware/spyware scans, and everything I can think of.

However, in the latest quest to resolve the issue, he is now losing keyboard functionality on restart. It works fine through BIOS, but goes rearded as soon as it hits Windows. You can uninstall and reinstall the drivers and it works fine until restart.

The system is an Athlon 64 with 2GB RAM, an 800GTS video card and plenty of power. The mouse is a standard USB Logitech currently, and his keboard is a PS/2 Microsoft. We have tried numerous keyboard and mouse combos though. All with the same results.

The only things we did before the system quit seeing the keyboard is run an updated AVG scan, and Ad Aware scan. That's it.

Any clue what could be happening?

    Thanks all!

  3. hey thanks guys all this helps, its an all in one reciever and yah it has RCA outputs and inputs, I have my ps2, a 6 disc player, and my tv hooked up to it, its a pretty big reciever. I have tried wiring an old headphone piece to an RCA  so it can plug in the back but Im having no luck with that, maybe Im wiring it wrong I dunno, any other sugestions would be great :P

    ~sara~

Look a the wire strands from the headphones. Are the strands themselves colored, or just the plastic jacket around them? If they're colored, you'l have to take a lighter or something and burn the coating off the wire itself. I've had to do this a few times.

  4. hey I'm new here, and I just had a question if someone could help me that would be great.  I don't have any money right now and I wanted to know how I can somehow make a wire to connect my mp3 into the back of my receiver so I can have it on surround sound.  my mp3 is just a 1gig creative zen, and my receiver is really old, so it has no pluggins for such a thing. I know there are conversion wires you can buy but they cost like 40 bucks, is there a way I can do this with wires I have lying around the house? thanks for your time :P

    ~Sara~

If your receiver has true surround sounds, its new enough to have RCA inputs(such as where you would connect a CD player). Now, are we talking a true stereo receiver, or is it an all in one shelf system?

If it does have said RCA input, then just buy a headphone plug to RCA adapter. Most stores, including Walmart, sell them for about $5.

  5. Ok, I'm putting together a server so I can do a local LAN game. As of now, we only play Unreal Tournament GOTY, so my old system work fine.

Now, however, we're going to be expanding games and adding HL2, CSS, and COD 2. If I'm running it as a dedicated server, do I really need o pump up the video card? I can get a few really nice systems with plenty of memory, and keeping the low end video card would really keep my costs down.

Logic tells me I won't need it, since it isn't actually rendering the game, but I have now idea how some of these games run in the back end.

    Thanks guys!

  6. On my Razr I can use a standard USB cable and Motorola Phone Tools. You do have to have the on-phone data service your carrier offers. I have US Cellular with Easyedge.

Speeds vary, but for the most part its right around 128k. Ma be faster for other carriers.

Not the fastest, or good for much of anything major, but I can browse and get my emails when there is no other option.

  7. Don't need the test, I'm 24% BMI.  I keep close eye on that since I"m trying to get back to my pre-IT job weight.

Alcohol consumption is equivalent to a 6 pack every couple months. Seriously.

Good things to do to reduce weight: Cut down on the non-water beverages. I cut out almost all soda, coffee, and milkshakes and went to bottled water. Vitamin Water is good. I lost a bunch of weight just from that in about 4-5 months. Also, watch the intake of fast foods. Subway wraps are your friend, seriously. Also, don't eat until you are stuffed. Eat until you are comfortable. Another good thing to do is drink 8oz of water before a meal, since this takes up room and helps you feel full sooner. Another note on that, eat slow. Your stomach takes about 20 minutes to shut off the hunger instinct in your brain. So you could be full long before you feel like it.

As for exercise, I got a membership to a gym. Do some good weight training, because unlike Aerobics, which stop working when the heart rate comes down, resistance training will continue to work for up to 48 hours after a proper workout.

My uncle is a registered personal trainer and body builder. Great source for me I guess.

  8. NVM, the n00b found it. However, I give up tryng to play. I can walk about 10 feet and as soon as I do anything, I lose that ability. Then it takes forever to reconnect. Tried connecting a few normal HL2 games just to test, and tested CS Source, no probs. So either the mod is buggy or doesn't agree with my systems.
