I think Matt has pretty much said it all here. We're not whoring you guys out for profit. Personally, if I start getting a check from Darren for each episode, 100% of it is going back into the show to buy equipment/gadgets/software for segments, or to pitch in towards building "Hak5" only machines for us to use on the sets instead of our own laptops/desktops.
If we're suddenly on mainstream TV and raking in millions of dollars, then I will obviously start enjoying the high life with the money, but until then, I could care less about depositing it at my bank.

The women on the show aren't there just because we're dating them. They're there because we think they can bring something good to the audience. If we wanted to have women on just as showpieces we'd hire some people from the exotic section on craigslist.

In the episode that was live from December 07's ECL event you guys stated that they were going to do another event ECL + Hak5 in June..
But ECL's forum is down and no news has been posted. And the past few days I've been searching Hak5's site I couldn't find any information.
ECL's contact emails aren't responding to me as well.
So my question is, what's going on? Is there going to be an event? What happened to ECL?
I think they went belly up.

Yeah ideally 0, as even 1 bad sector in the wrong place can render the drive unreadable.
I recommend getting a copy of Hiren's or the Ultimate Boot CD and running a utility called HDAT2. Choose the mode that scans AND repairs sectors and let it run till it's done. It may take a a few hours or more, so just do it overnight or something.
It's revived two coworkers' laptops so far.

Use everest or google the s/n on the motherboard itself. There should be some sort of identifying marks on the mobo though, manufacturer, etc.

I use my wrt54g at home with dd-wrt, and VPN through that.
Just remember with a VPN that only the traffic inbetween the endpoints is encrypted. Each endpoint itself is still vulnerable so if either your machine or the endpoint machine is compromised the VPN is useless.

Camera comfort isn't something that's easily undone too. It's almost like.. you have scripted stuff on one plate, and unscripted on the other, and it's very hard to find a way to balance that scale while still enjoying it.
