  1. Thanks digip for info, u r right antivirus is dead, i have norton installed on my windows 7, i rarely use windows sometimes only for torrents for movies sometimes, rest i spend all my time with kali linux which i made a direct HDD install along win7, or i spend time with testing new linux live cd distros. testing in a sandbox or isolated vm like you said is best idea.

  2. Hi,

This is regarding how to update mutillidae on metasploitable -2 to the latest version OWASP Mutillidae II 2.5.18, metasploitable-2 comes preinstalled with old version of mutilliade 2.1.19. OWASP Mutillidae II is a free, open source, deliberately vulnerable web-application with 35 vulnerablities and challenges, the latest version is rock solid.

my credits & thanks to author Jeremy Druin (webpwnized) creator of mutillidae for his suggestion in updating mutillidae on metasploitable -2.

    here is what i did

    1. set virtual box network adapter to NAT

    2. fire up metasploitable -2

    3. this requires root so use sudo from msfadmin first.

    4. cd /var/www

    5 .ls

    6. here you will see mutillidae folder, change the name of the existing folder to preserve the contents

    mv /var/www/mutillidae /var/www/mutillidae.bak

    7. then use SVN to install the replacement, go to sourceforge site svn subversion tab

    type the code

    svn checkout http://svn.code.sf.n...dae/mutillidae/ mutillidae-mutillidae /var/www

    8. the downloaded version will be in folder mutillidae

    9. you can delete the previous installation if you wish.

Thats all, when you go to localhost click reset database

  3. when ethernet cable is connected & network adapter is bridged in virtualbox, a successful connection is established inside vm, but when i disconnect cable & access kali through iphone's wifi hotspot i get good internet access in kali linux , but in virtualbox NAT works & in bridged mode there is no connectivity, how to fix this ?

Well yes but it wont really matter as long as there are no IDS's or IPS's on your network that might go off (which if you are at home this shoudn't be an issue). Just having the traffic on your network should not cause an issue for users on your network if you are not targeting them.

  4. Of course it is! Just install virtualbox on kali and create your vms then install the OS that you want on them. Once that is done change the network settings from nat to bridge and thats it :)

if changed from NAT to Bridged will it be a problem for other LAN user's or outside network while doing extensive penetration testing ? will my packets leak outside when sent from kali ?

  5. Fedora is more or less the free version of Redhat, just bloated with all the miltimedia extras. Red Hat is more lean, Fedora, more user desktop, mainstream, like uBuntu, mint, etc. Right now I have edubuntu at home for the kids on an old quad core and works pretty well, but would go full uBuntu if installing VM's and want more compatibility with hardware, although not fond of unity that much, and even though I do like gnome, I still like KDE for stability as my desktop environment vs the light weight options in some other distros.

Thanks..Booted kali Linux on live cd to see if windows wireless drivers will work or not, great the debian based kali catches wifi & gets connected in seconds, did same with openSUSE no problem at all. i would use my smartphones internet sharing/ Tethering for Kali if wanna use it on remote locations.. all these are just experiment, playing around to see what happens for fun or some serious business.. they say that fedora has problem with updates i donno yet, will try it on live cd..

  6. Hi,

I would like to install Red Hat Linux on my windows 7 Dell XPS by completly wiping out original windows, & then is it possible to install virtualbox so that i can run kali linux ? seems werid in my opinion but i want to try something new for a change. what are your suggestions ? or which is better linux distro that i can use it as main O.S for windows ?

    Regards
