  1. Yeah, both TCP and UDP ports 53 are forwarded, and my firewall is configured accordingly. I even tried completely disabling it and still no luck...

  2. Actually, both the dynDNS account and two address entries I created are brand new created for this specific task. Considering whether the addresses work or not, how can I surely tell? I mean I'm able to ping them both, and they return my correct IP address resolved by the nameserver. Does this mean they work or is there a different way of checking?

EDIT: Not sure if it's of any importance, but I also tried VNCing myself through the dynDNS address and that worked like a charm as well...

Seems that the addresses work. Maybe I just need to wait some time until the nameservers are actually recognized by GoDaddy?

  3. Hm... Not sure if I got something wrong here but I just got a new domain (used the hak1 code :)) and as soon as I try to update the nameservers to my dyndns info I get a | Nameserver not registered | error from GoDaddy. Any ideas?

EDIT: Perhaps GoDaddy guys saw the episode and restricted dyndns nameservers right away? ... I may be way out of line here though :D

  4. Only tried the "normal" 3x3x3 so far. The whole idea behind it was my desire to beat my father's childhood record :) Managed to do it in 38.47 seconds...

    Two other things worth mentioning:

    1. 26 years means absolutely nothing when trying to solve the cube with no algorithms to follow. There are an enormeous number of possible permutations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubik's_cube) making the task incredibly hard. Even Rubik himself took a long time to figure out how to solve the cube, and the guy invented the freaking thing.

    2. On the other hand, solving the cube once you learn an algorithm or two becomes an extremely simple task and anyone can do it. The only thing you need to figure out is whether you want to (just) solve it, solve it fast, or solve it with the least number of moves. The later two require a bit more practise and more algorithm knowledge.

Imaginary point 3. If you are the kind of guy with the kind of friends that enjoy this sort of thing, learn how to solve it. It really is a conversation starter and it raises a few eyebrows. It took me about a week or two of practise to learn enough algorithms to do this. I'm not doing it extremely fast, nor am I doing it in a small number of moves but still, I'm doing it :)

    Happy cubing!

  5. Recently got an Asus AH3650 Silent HDMI GPU and it works great so far. It was connected through a DVI connection but I recently changed to HDMI just for the hell of it. Correct me if I'm wrong but DVI and HDMI should behave the same as far as video quality is concerned, and as far as I'm noticing they do.

The problem is the sound. I set the GPU as the default sound device and I did get sound but I'm experiencing a strange issue. Namely whenever I play a sound (song, movie) or someone speaks on Ventrillo, Skype and other sound applications I don't get the first second or so of the sound. It delays just a bit and then after 0.5 seconds it gradualy comes up, and only then does it stabilize to the "normal" point.

Now, this is not an issue as far as songs and movies are concerned but it kills me with sound applications because I'm missing the start of every sentence that the other person sais. One second in a short sentence is basically... Sentence looses all meaning :)

I know that it's quite a specific problem and there's not much someone can do to help, but I was just wondering if any of you guys has possibly experienced anything similar. Any comments are welcome!

I'm transfering to sound card for the time being... :) .. Thanks!

  6. Isn't RADIUS a type of server authentication in which you need an actuall machine designated to preform this task? Do you have an actuall server or did you choose RADIUS as a home network type of authentication?

  7. Disclamer:

Before I mention anything, let me state that I did research google on the subject and found several good articles, but I have a more specific question that general articles didn't really answered... Just stating so that I don't get the "google is your friend" reply/flame.

    -------------------

So, here's the deal: I wanted to upgrade an old computer I have which has the Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard. In the motherboard manual it states that its AGP slot only supports 1.5v mode. The AGP card I got is the AH3650 SILENT/HTDI/512M. Unfortunately, niether in the manual, nor on ASUS's site can I find the exact specification of the card considering the voltage it works under. Being an 8x card though, I supposed that it works under the .8v mode and it's keyed for 8x as well.

Now, taking into consideration that the MB specs are allowing only 1.5v does this mean that the mode it supports will be 4x and that the card will automatically work under the 4x specs even though I have 8x selected in the BIOS?

    Thanks in advance!

  8. I'd like to thank every1 4 your replies!

Just wanted to mention: I didn't wanna use fat32 cuz of the 4gig limit on files. This being an backup drive I have a lot of files that exceed that size. Also, I didn't wanna use ext3 cuz even though (as you guys said) I can read it on Windows using some sort of plugins this would imply that I need to install/setup them on every machine I connect the disk to, something that is out of the question on several machines as I don't have permission to do that sort of stuff.

I was thinking of trying Sparda's solution and "make administrator the owner of the drive and grant everyone rw access" and did just that. Seems crazy enough to work :) jk

I found out that the disk had some permissions granted to users that I don't even know, as well as some weird (sakjhfjk23342hkjh) user names and started to think that maybe somewhere along the line of people that used this disk someone had a virus that changed ownership or permissions and stuff... Do you guys think that's possible?

And another question, if you guys don't mind. If I backup the files on a different drive and reformat this drive using NTFS (again)... Will it reset all of the ownership settings and return the drive to the ownerless state in which it was b4 all this happened?

    Thanks again!

  9. I started using a removable 2.5" hard drive as an external drive for several months now, but recently I started having some "problems" with it.

Namely, for the past few weeks I started having ownership issues with the disk. Whenever I copy something from one computer, I can't open it on a different one without first having to take ownership of those files or folders.

It's not that it's difficult to do, but it's absolutely pointless to always have to do it since the disk is always in my possession.

My question is, is there a way to remove this ownership business so that my disk returns to it's previous state where whatever I copy and wherever I copy it from can be accessed wherever I want to without having to do anything special.

Also, I would like to know what caused this change to the disk since I have no clue what I did that imposed these ownership rules?

I'd like to mention that I did do some google research before posting here but all I managed to find on google were several tutorials on how to take ownership, but none on how to remove the whole ownership deal.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. Cuz of the fact that you are calling it "this product" VaKo u obviously don't know what I'm talking about. And if u read my 1st post at least twice I'm looking 4 some1 that knows what a HDD Player is, has seen/owned 1 to give me some information on it. And I didn't need some1 who has no idea to tell me of my lack of info. Thanks for the wonderfull ideas that u posted though, I'll tell them to implement that into the next version :P

As for info on the gadget itself: It's just like a box that holds HDDs and makes them a portable memory with the difference that this thing has VGA and composite OUT and u can connect it 2 a PC monitor or TV directly and play movies off the HDD inside without the need 4 a PC. There are some that play dvix things or dvd things, or even view pictures. They have (as far as I saw) audio (headphones) connectors and a couple of other IN/OUTs but I didn't quite see what they were.

Assuming that this version of the product can:

pirate TV shows before they are aired, it will also solve world hunger and summon Jesus with the push of a button.
    I'm deffinately buying this thing.
  11. K people, I'm little emberresed that I found out about this so late but anyway I thought of asking you 4 your opinions b4 I decide 2 buy the thing. You probably know by the title I’m talking about a HDD Player. I’m in China at the moment so I saw it in a couple of stores yesterday and wanted to ask you all for your opinion on the gadget. Is it worth buying, is the picture and sound quality ok, is there something (model wise) that I should be careful of when buying and stuff like that. It’s really cheap so I’ll get one sure, but there are so many different models that I have to hear some1s opinion b4 I get it. I know it doesn’t have a HDD inside but I have 1 small 2.5” laptop hard disk on disposal so I’ll use that1. The most important thing that bothers me is that the thing is so small that I just can’t understand how the hell they fit all the controllers and stuff needed to read the HDD and translate the data into a video and audio signal… Technology is getting so advanced by the hour… Damn… Ok, so please reply ASAP with any comments or first hand experiences (good or bad) with the gadget so that I can have a piece of mind whether to buy it or not. Thanks.

  12. Ok, so I was thinking about hak5s No1 company Microshaft and thought of buying the domain name so I can have some fun with it. I got in and... It's taken. I msg the webmaster 4 info on the price and guess what. Microshaft is being sold for 5,800 bucks!!! I think hak5 made it popular though ;) Nice work guys.

BTW: I'm in China on vacation. The time here is exactly 12 hours ahead of hak5 time. How the hell do u expect me to view the live show in 7AM!!!??!? :D roflmao.. Will certanly try though :D All the best.

  13. Just outta curiosity. Were there any live callers in the live "live show" or did everything end with the clodged tubes? In any case, the show was good.

P.S. Only 1 hard disk ever crashed on me. It was a 40 gig maxtor. It showed up on boot as Maxtor Romulus... So Darren, support 4 the anti maxtor parade :D

  14. Not sure if i found this on their website but have u seen a binary clock? You can see a better looking one on thinkgeek.com i believe. Check it out :D It takes some time to figure out the time but it's the geekiest thing out there :D

  15. I tried the thing also. Personally I can't do anything cuz as soon as I try to enter anything in a text field the broswer crashes. Now I do know my PC needs a fresh reinstall but how come IE and FF don't complain with a fatal errors when I try to search something in google :D

  16. I started practicing this a while back, and I'm not saying it's something unheard of, but I thought I state it here just so maybe someone else thinks it's a good idea and starts doing it. USE LEET SPEAK FOR MAKING UP PASSWORDS. I know that everyone today suggests passphrases as a more secure option, but just in case you want a one word password you should use leet to write it. For example even choosing a password like: "password" and writing it as "p455w0rd" instead, makes it more secure. Think about it :D

  17. Ok, so no1 here will talk about their first computer... Ahem... Well while we're on the subject, my first computer was a ZX Spectrum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX_Spectrum). I started playing with it at age 3-4. The thing was awesome, and the coolest part was that all the programs and games came out on audio cassettes, and you could order them by making a list of what you want and the good guys that worked at ... would "burn" them on a cassette and send you a compilation of all the best things out there :D Anyway, I did use win 95 but I didn't have a PC back then. My first PC had win 98 SE. Oh yeah, I'm 19.8 yrs now so go figure about the age thing :D
