  1. These are good books, you might want to check out.

    http://www.fishpond.com.au/Books/advanced_search_result.php?rid=5303699&keywords=Cloud%20services

The WIKIPEDIA, has a nice overview and explanation of what a cloud computer really is.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing

Here's an article, about how cloud computing works.

  2. Hi I am looking to re certify, but all I can find is online training. None of the colleges have classroom training. Everything is done online. I was cisco ccna certified and am A+ certified. Ccna expired and A+ is pre windows XP. I want to get Cisco certified and Refresh some skills hardware and Newer windows O/S's I want to be more marketable.

When I did my CCNA course, it was about 6 years ago and I did it through my university. You may want to find out, if any of the universities near offer it.

  3. I've stopped using Dropbox services for a very long time. From now on, I've decided to run my own web-server and mail server from home. You can call me paranoid, but I am very much concerned about my personal information privacy and security integrity.

Why should I trust a third party service provider to handle it for me, when I can very well do it myself?

  4. It can be very difficult to detect if someone is sniffing your traffic, even if they are not active on the network (generating traffic).

If they are simply standing by and sniffing the traffic passively, it would be almost impossible to tell he is there in the first place.

If he was sniffing the traffic on a local LAN, using methods such as ARP Poisoning, it would be possible to stop him using Layer 3 switch, or ARPWATCH or ARP-ON.

But Ideally, if you don't want to have someone snooping on your traffic or information, you should encrypt it.

  5. I would steal candy from a criminal to know what you know, Digip... lol

Well, it takes time, lots of reading, researching and talking to people to get to the level of where he is now. Not to forget, dedication and patience too.

But I would do that same too, steal candy from a criminal.

  6. Thanks,I had made my decision to go with your opinion which is the AWUS036NHA,thanks for the guidance.

Anyway, how is the range of AWUS036NHA compare to AWUS036H. As what I searched through the google, they said NHA far shorter than H,is it true?

Apparently that's what it seems, the AWUS036NHA has a shorter range than the AWUS036H. But it's faster than the AWUS036H. But if you upgrade the antenna to a directional antenna like the yagi-uda antenna you could maximize the range. Just beware that, the surroundings will have an impact on the range, so any buildings, trees or walls on the path will greatly reduce the range too.

Since I own the two adapters, I have two antennas a 5dbi and 9dbi onmi-directional antenna, which helps me get a better signal around me.

  7. Well, I've been using the Alfa AWUS036NHA for sometime now and didn't notice any performance or stability issues.

However, I was not using this adapter on Backtrack, but on CentOS. CentOS is alot more stable than Backtrack, which could explain for the sudden instability on the adapter.

I'd recommend you to go with the AWUS036NHA if you can.

  8. I own both adapters and they both work straight out of the box with Backtrack r3 x86 or x64 bit.

The AWUS036H has a Realtek chipset and only support the G standard, while the AWUS036NHA supports the N standard and has an Atheros chipset, which is much stable than the Realtek chipset

Now using these cards on Windows won't get you packet injection or monitoring mode due to the drivers, but if you are going to be using them for wireless pen-testing on a LInux distro besides Backtrack you can use the Compat Wireless drivers which works well under any Linux distro.

    http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=compat-wireless

So I wouldn't be too concerned about Alfa discontinuing support for the AWUS036H drivers, it will still work even after Alfa ends the support.

  9. I occasionally use webs.com, for uploading images and other files I make available when I am helping people on forums. I've been using it for a while which is OK for what I do, but it does have some limitations, which can only be removed if you upgrade your free account.

Alternatively, you can also setup your own webserver and host it from home. That's what I used to do, but can be challenging sometimes to administer it, whereas if you pay for a private hosting company, you get all those burdens taken away from you.

  10. Could you please tell how this is done? Or is this only possible on professional grade Cisco switches, and can't be used if connected to the hub part of a wifi router?

Using a network hub, or the man in the middle suite will get what you want.

As Digininja stated earlier ARP poisoning will usually overcome the hurdles that a switch puts in place.

So I'd suggest you to look into either Cain and Able or the Ethercap.

  11. Hi,

I just got my Alfa awus036nhr. After a bit of work I got it up and running on Ubuntu 12.10 machine. I am able to put it into monitor mode using airmon-ng.

However, when using it with Wireshark I am only picking up Broadcast packets and no other types of packets are being captured. I have checked and I am running in promiscuous mode when I start the capture session.

Does anyone know what I can do in order to fix this?

    Thanks.

What other particular packets are you after?

  12. It's very simple, if you don't want to pay for someone's illegal doing, don't run your computer as a TOR exit relay. Either use it as bridge or relay node, but never as an exit node.

Tor is safe to use, but you must use it with caution and always take extra care when using it.

  13. I got an XP machine set up in the DMZ of my network. Can I use Samba to share files with BT5 and Ubuntu 12 on the through the firewall of my modem?

Just out of curiosity, why did you put that XP machine in a DMZ?

  14. Thank you so kindly digip. Arbitrary or not online reputation is rather important now-a-days. Lolz Thanks again.

For instance, look at my rating, it's like over -400. At first I was abit shocked, I thought that people in here really hated my guts.

But as long as you do the right thing, such as posting the right stuff and willing to help others, and treat them with respect.

You should be in the green in no time.

  15. Mr-Protocol was pretty much spot on with his answers. I'd just like to add one thing, try learning a bit more about networking in general, a lot of new people that comes into this field, has very limited knowledge of network, and they don't know how important it really is. CCNA and Network+ are very good courses and I highly recommend them.

Another thing I would suggest to you, is to learn a Linux distro such as CentOS or MintOS. You will find that, most of the tools used in this field are Linux based, so learning a Linux OS is of a big advantage for you.

And last, but not least here are some useful resources that you can use to learn more, securitytube.net and irongeek.com.
