Windows would work fine for that then.
The card I am using doesn't have cache, IIRC, since it uses the system's CPU and memory, but it was only 150 bucks and serves my needs well.
Use what will work best for you. :)

Great! but im going to use Debian cuz ubuntu have some update bug that.. i don't know why... wont let me run the vboxserver. :(What version of VBox were you using and what version of Ubuntu?
I've used the proprietary version of VBox on both Ubuntu Server (and desktop) 9.10 and 10.04 without any problems.

What I was trying to point out, is that if you use a HW card, and it dies, you usually need to get one that is the exact same model or very similar for it to be able to see the array. Otherwise you just have to redo the entire thing.
Having a good set of backups is a life safer. :)

On my file server (running *nix) I have a smallish boot drive and a hardware RAID5 array with 3 x 2TB drives.
I was debating on going software or hardware but decided to go for hardware so I could use any OS.
Anyway, software does have a few advantages over HW raid, mostly being that you can use whatever sized drives you want, and you don't have to worry about a hardware card dying on you.
There are a few more but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Nice job on the episode. :)
It's nice to see the ability to have a web interface for VBox.
What I've been mostly doing if I need to access machines remotely is connected via SSH and then tunnel RDP or VNC over SSH, that way I won't have to worry about having them accessible from the internet. Only downside is that I need to have SSH connected to get connected to the VM I am using. Works pretty well for me.
I'll probably look into using that web interface and see how it goes, since that would be a bit easier than doing everything from the commandline.

It's messy to try to change the wallpaper, and I wasn't able to get it to work. I ended up installing Win7 Pro on my netbook. >.>

Can I use any other source port or is it a specific port I need to use for the source port?
You can use whatever source port you want.
-
This would probably answer it better than I can.
Note: If you are using RDP, you need to pick a different source port than 3389, if you are going off a Windows box.

What issues are you running into?
Why not just use Putty?

The reason they are "locked" is due to DRM crap. Just open them in Adobe and print them to PDF.

I'd just use imgburn personally. I've tried CDBurnerXP, but it wouldn't work with one of my sata drives.

For the most part, open box stuff was just returned and newegg resells it after testing it to make sure it works correctly.
I prefer new stuff tho. :)

I think it needs a high speed internet connection, but I could be wrong.

SSH tunnel would work, I wouldn't ever expose RDP or VNC to the internet.
If you don't have the ability to set up an SSH tunnel, maybe look into something like TeamViewer and have it running in the background.
-
Thanks guys. I think I'll be using TeamViewer. :)
-
I was debating on installing it and letting it run in the background after whitelisting my main desktop PC and netbook (and blacklisting everyone else), and setting a complex password.
I guess the thing I am worried about is that it'll leave a port open (or so nmap says that port is open when I run a scan on a test pc)

Why not use <div> tags instead of <p> tags? That way you can set it for centered in CSS.

Personal use, so I don't really want to buy anything if I can accomplish my goal without spending money. :P
I'll be supporting a friend of mine who lives around 300 miles away and as far as I know the machine is directly connected to the internet.
I was messing around with TeamViewer and it looks like I can blacklist/whitelist clients as well as set a rather long password. That seems to make it a bit more secure, since I could allow only my machine access and deny everything else.
I'll be connecting from either my desktop or my netbook.
-
I'm trying to find something that is easier to use than Microsoft's "Remote Assistance" software. I was playing around with TeamViewer the other day, which seems to work fairly well. Unfortunately I don't know how secure it would be if used on a machine connected directly to the internet.
Any other suggestions?

Are you sure the password isn't "12345" ??

Why not ask yer parents to allow more than 2 hours on the computer, instead of going behind their backs.

How did you install VBox? Thru apt-get or by downloading the deb and running it?
You would need to connect to your external IP address on port 8080. Otherwise, connect via SSH and tunnel it thru that.
