  1. just a side note, the BIOS is Y2K ready! ^_^ ;)
  2. i tried that, i completely removed everything from the case and tried again... it didn't work.
  3. the thing's practically a motherboard in a case! there would be no point. anyways; i don't have that much in my budget
  4. i semi-recently purchased a computer. when i brought it home, i discovered that it had onboard graphics. one problem: the onboard graphics don't work. i have tried a generic pci graphics card, it didn't work either. all other systems seem to be functioning normally (well, except for the hard drive, but that's another matter)
  5. If you have wireless working, I discovered that wireshark works great on the zipit!
  6. Under aliosa I just did this: apt-get install ssh /usr/sbin/sshd -q yay! Done!
  7. a little off topic, but you can get a ssh server running on the zipit with the following commands: apt-get install ssh /usr/sbin/sshd -q now you don't have to use that tiny keyboard all the time! Yay!
  8. does anybody know what the ^ key is?
  9. I use aumix for my audio, netcat for tcp stuff, elinks, dillo and links2 serve as my web browsers, twitux is a great Twitter client that works on the zipit, ayttm works too and, of course, ssh.(prboom too)
  10. Does anybody know how to make it standby when the lid is closed and/or get a battery monitor working?
  11. i use elinks and dillo too. i tried iceweasel, but it took FOREVER to load.
  12. i use mine with WEP encrypted wifi type iwconfig eth1 key mykey during wireless setup to use it p.s. this was posted from my zipit
  13. you just have to press the reset button in the side with something small and sharp (i use mechanical pencil lead) you can also use the shutdown command at the prompt, but it takes a minute or two to actually shut down.
  14. all right, the ide/usb thing kinda fell through. so i'm back to square 2
  15. i think i'll go with the ide to usb after all. i have decided to install it on a virtual machine and then write the disk image to the hard drive directly. this begs the question, how do i write a .vdi image to a usb disk?
  16. i think i'll go with booting over a network. can someone tell me how to do it from a mac?
  17. i believe so. it would have to be wired as there is no on-board wifi.
  18. i still cannot afford one right now
  19. here're some pics (under that thing on the hard drive is an ide connector)
  20. to be more clear: I cannot afford a connector for it (it's a 2.5" ide hard drive). I only have a mac (my pc is the one with the hosed bios/graphics card)
  21. i can't get an ide connector for 2.5" hard drives
  22. HELP! A little over a month ago i was doing the zipit hack. It was successful. However, I accidentally typed in sda1 instead of sdb1 and killed a computer. Thankfully, that was my backup computer that I only use for things like this. I finished the process using my mac. I would like to get my secondary computer working because it's backup has either a fried bios or a fried graphics card (I can't tell which.) the computer has had some hardware failures that mean that it cannot accept cds or floppys (the drives just whirr and stop and buzz), the bios does not support booting from usb and the bootloader is unusable.PLEASE HELP!
