  3. I have a website at: www.haroldsearchnetworks.co.nr It's hosted at www.freewebtown.com (which is down often) I would like it get a better design for my site, not to mention a better server. I do run a game server but do not think that it is will be able to handle a website as well. (my hits are low because I switched domains, does anyone know of any goods ways to advertise? Any and all help would be appreciated.

I am using http://routhost.com/ and they're the best... of course not the TB transfer as Dreamhost suggested, but their support is great, usually 30mn after you submit your ticket!

I have used Dreamhost and left them because of the poor quality of the service; but this is my personal opinion..

For your website, you might wanna buy a template made online if you can't make one yourself... usually around 50$.

    good luck

  8. Bad Kitty

There’s been some commotion about the KittenAuth CAPTCHA and how effective it is or isn’t. Last weekend, I decided to give the PCA-SIFT algorithm a whirl against it and see how it went. After having wget grab a sufficient number of images, I deleted all duplicates and put the manually verified cats in a folder and got keypoints for them. Now finding out what is and isn’t a cat is as simple as a Perl script:

    $ time find . -iname '0.*' -exec ./findkitty.pl {};

    Finding keypoints...

    64 keypoints found.

    Finding keypoints...

    105 keypoints found.

    ./www.thepcspy.com/images/dynamic/kitty/2/0.390180844063955 is a cat

    Finding keypoints...

    124 keypoints found.

    ./www.thepcspy.com/images/dynamic/kitty/3/0.390180844063955 is a cat

    Finding keypoints...

    96 keypoints found.

    ./www.thepcspy.com/images/dynamic/kitty/4/0.390180844063955 is a cat

    Finding keypoints...

    209 keypoints found.

    Finding keypoints...

    118 keypoints found.

    Finding keypoints...

    209 keypoints found.

    Finding keypoints...

    173 keypoints found.

    Finding keypoints...

    122 keypoints found.

    real    0m6.045s

    user    0m5.173s

    sys     0m0.319s`

I used PCA-SIFT because, while it’s slower than a simple file hash (which would defeat this in its current form), it can still accurately match images which have been through a variety of modifications (i.e. pretty much all of the modifications I have seen suggested elsewhere).

It would be pretty hard to use the idea for this captcha and have a sufficiently large enough database that it could defeat the method I’m using to get around it. An attacker could just have it cache all the unique images it sees and only have to have a human look at any given picture once to classify it, and if you use a large source of known images that you wouldn’t have to classify (such as GIS or kittenwar), it’s reasonable to believe that an attacker could use it as well.

Dude... all your post are about news "copy, paste from the internet".

are u some kind of journalist for hak5? lol

  9. Alright... seems like when it comes down to computers and all the geek stuff...

two things always shows up "Games and Beer"... alright three things "... girls".... alright i meant "porn".

Anyway... so you know I don't drink, neither play Video Games and dislike porn; and yes I like women.

So what's wrong with me? or what's wrong with you guys?!

just to "demythologize" the whole understanding or the sick logic that follows the world of geeks and computers. It's not always about games, neither beer, nor porn.

Instead of gaming, go for a bike ride

Instead of drinking beer, try some water, it's good for you

Instead of watching porn, get a girlfriend and enjoy a relationship

Having issues with yourself is one thing, excusing it just for the sake of being cool and be in the computer business, is even worse.

Alright, I am going get some water...

  10. Hello!,

If you have read my other posts in the "Hacks, Mods & Coding" section about creating a home firewall with linux for home use(one client PC, the only other computer in the house). you know what im going for. anyway, I wanted to experiment with the different linux distros but only have 2 6gb HDDs, I was planning to put SmoothWall and m0n0wall on one disk just as a test of which would suit my needs best, and the other having ubuntu 6.10 installed on it, how would I go about partitioning my disks to have each installation in a different area and will I be able to select what i want to run each boot( I just want to try the 2 firewalls and decide on one and then delete teh other one.) your help would be most appreciated.

    thnx,

    Super Pollos

All you need is Iptables and a solid linux distro such as debian... so start cramming that and you will be set

    good luck
