  1. RE: recording quality

There are no known quality enhancements to be made to these processes. In other words the result is as good as the stream itself or it is indiscernibly different from it? (Remember: I already admitted to being ignorant.)

  2. Also, good, those logs gave me a good idea of what went wrong: the paths are too long. Copy and paste your save folder address here (C:\Documents.. or whatever.) so i can confirm it. A low of windows functions have a 255 char path length limit, a holdover from Dos-based windowses, even though NTFS support 4096. It seems that it was butting into that.

Well, I know not the helpfulness of this (I redid this since I don't know where the first one went):

Reload every 30 mins not preventing Pandora 'Are you?' stoppage. XP, firefox, full player, turbo.

Check for a line similar to "<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3600">" in the source. it may be 3600, 1800, or some other value depending on interval. Also, when you load pandora, it should say auto-mangling page .... in Pandorasaver's log.

Sorry, where do I check for the line "<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3600">"?

I see no "auto-mangling page" in Pandorasaver's log. Here's the log when I start Pandora, but not with a fresh start of PS):

  4. brofix: Usually Vista would declare simpleproxy failed after some time (if I got it going and saving, which was not always), leaving behind a bunch of temp.dat files. These are unnamed mp4s? It appears the PandoraSaver's log is not durable across sessions?

ZZJ: Can you follow the instructions at this url and see what those errors were (post them here)? they will be listed under application failures.

The Vista event viewer is a bit of a giant hairball. I'm happy to look around in it if you can direct me more specifically. Confirmed here (Vista): Turbo only working with the miniplayer.

  5. brofix: I need to figure out exactly what the apparent problem is and will repost later. Running 1.007a on a Vista laptop, IE. I think Turbo does not function except in miniplayer. I remember unresolved url notices in the running log, I thought, but don't see it below. 1.006 turbo runs fine. (1.007 turbo works fine on an XP machine with Firefox.)

ZZJ: Also, do you have an excerpt of Pandorasaver's log during the same? the sproxy log shows nothing wrong other than Pandora is requesting files at a normal pace.

I will try to get it together. All IE on the Vista machine: Tried both 1.006 and 1.007 again, turbo and not, miniplayer and not, and the results seemed inconsistent. Usually Vista would declare simpleproxy failed after some time (if I got it going and saving, which was not always), leaving behind a bunch of temp.dat files. These are unnamed mp4s?

It appears the PandoraSaver's log is not durable across sessions?

Interestingly, memory and cpu usage seems much less demanding in Vista, though I do have twice as much ram in that machine.

  6. Now that you implemented configurable 'file name style' (thank you very much), any recommendations on setting 'duplicate name tolerance' so that files saved under '%artist% - %title%' will not be saved under '%artist% - %album% - %title%', that is, so if artist and title are the same file will not be saved, regardless of album or even better, if no album is indicated?

  8. So, turbo or not the mp4 bitrate is the same, showing 64 kbps here? And I assume re-encoding to a higher bitrate mp3 (160 rec max) will not improve audio quality only increase the file size?

Anyway, watching the prog in action is a pleasure, since it is always way ahead of me.

  9. I use the regular sized player for listening simply because I can get band info, etc., there. then I actually save some of that as mht (only IE) because it is often good info. Do I ever use it or access it? Rarely, but I like having it.

So I'll try running Pandora in IE as a player and PS in a separate firefox window for turbo.

  10. Auto reload of Pandora to avoid timeout was working yesterday, not today. Still enabled in settings. The start order is SP and then the miniplayer...oh, there it is, as you point out, the refresh does not work with the mini. OK. I use the mini with turbo, but I can certainly change that.

  11. Audacity 1.3.7 beta supposedly handles mp4, but is balking at PandoraSaver mp4s. Dunno about others and my player apps have no probs so this seems to be a prob in Audacity. Changing extension to m4a doesn't help.

When I said I wanted to check clipping of the files with such a program I meant as when record levels are too high or low and result in an over or under 'saturation', rather than that the front or back end of the files was chopped or blank.

  12. How is the volume level of the recording determined? Is it adjustable through the pandora player setting and does it have nothing to do with whatever playback settings are in effect at the time (if one has previously recorded tracks playing while one is recording in turbo mode)? I could figure this one with trial and error but was hoping for a tip to save me the trouble.

    >> Seems to have nothing to do with non-Pandora playback settings.

Must check the P player setting relevancy.

  13. As will be clear, I'm ignorant of all things to do with programing and technical audio. Having said that, thanks much on a most wonderful app, which I've yet to blunder with, maybe.

Too bad for me that you can't use Turbo with mp3 save as that is what my Sansa Fuze wants to play.

Auto delete of skipped tunes might be useful; dupe rejection takes care of that if in fact there is a dupe in the default directory, but it may be located elsewhere.

Prior to today, I was using a nice little stream recorder, HarddiskOgg, which has variable bit rate recording which I thought was effective. I tried to load PS mp4s into Audacity to check on clipping but was not able to since it doesn't work with mp4s (at least in my version). Any recommendations for checking the quality of the recordings (other than listening)? >>> Audacity 1.3.6 beta supports m4a.

Since I often have the files in other directories, I would like to be able to have the album as a part of the file name, in addition to the artist and the tune.
