I do not think the song exists, often. But it seems like DS resolves this and saves the song, even though that does not seem possible. I'll watch more closely.

New DS. FF. DS default tune size is too small for some of the stuff I listen to (about 15 mins mp3). I must check on adjusting that. The incorrect number of fields stuff is common (isn't it?) and doesn't seem to matter.

Retrieved the file length fix from the thread. Setting is in sproxy.conf.
First, close sproxy and wait 10 seconds or so while it finishes exiting. Then, you will need to open SProxy.conf, and search for "MaxTamperLength". It should come up to an area that looks like:CODE <item>

New version. DS couldn't work this one out, got in a death loop and had to be restarted. Did not happen before. The same track stopped the whole works (multiple sessions) several times before I skipped it and everything was fine.

Firstly, righteous performance continues to amaze. (And foobar is a nice sidekick.)
Otherwise....
When PS made this oopsie it then would not save a file until the error was acknowledged by the user (or at least I think that is what allowed it to move on, in this case some 15 hours later). It would be nice if it would move on without this intervention. (XP SP3 / FF / turbo (DS edition)) Perhaps it's obvious, but there were no other significant processes going on in this period; the machine was unmanned in the service of the most laudable PS Project.

As a less than satisfied winamp user looking for a good cross dir converter, I will happily try foobar. Looks much more promising than what I've stumbled upon.

What success I have had with the tedium that can be Deezer results from keeping an eye on the play arrow: if it is greyed (which can be hard to read) then the file will not play. I search for an artist, review the results for playable tracks, click on an album for which there are playable tracks (it seems it is either all or none that are playable), then save that album as a favorite. It will then be listed on the left and can be accessed with a click. Tracks can then be played in sequence, no further input required: start at track one and play the album through. (I don't bother with playlists or the dumb 'smartplaylists' as they won't play anything or will play one tune, though they list total playing time.)
Try "David Torn." " Prezens" works; "Lars and the Real Girl" does not (for me on my XP machine....Geezer is nothing if not tedious.... neither of these work on my Vista machine, though others do. Many tracks are not playable on the Vista unit.)
A relatively minor but sometimes helpful addition to the above is that if a track has a greyed play arrow but a non-greyed "+", it may be added to a playlist and played from there.
I wish someone would comment on the XP / Vista playability funk (most odd).

Eh, no, no plans at the moment. As it turns out i was thinking of mp3 -> mp4 conversion ( hey i was tired ); with mp4 the problem is extracting the metadata - mp4tags afaik only writes it, and faad provides incomplete data.
Actually, faad seems to provide most of the data except the albumart cannot be extracted.

Many, several, I am looking for a better batch encoder (multiple directory) than we, I, have been able to find, as indicated by previous pleadings here.

For Deezer, Freezer works fairly well, were we not spoiled rotten. For that blame ZZJ, and may he get cracking on this one in the very near future.

I've just found deezer.com, which even with all it's tedium can be a nice complement to Pandora, and noted previous refs to getting fiddler, et al, to work there.
How about PS and PS, talent?
Please post personal players that play the PS ripped mp4 files natively (ACC+). I saw the new Zunes play MP4 but not sure about ACC+. I don't know of any non-Apples which do, though I have little experience.

BTW: when playlists were not being generated I was tuned to a station rather than in in quickmix mode.

Blip: Playlists not being generated, except for newmusik. XP/FF/turbo. Peculiar.
Viewing save folder still causing 100% cpu usage, but not at the moment with folders not displayed.

Oh, yes, I like it!! Nixed WMP and Zune stuff and I'm sorry to say Real Player also (thought sure I'd removed that one in its entirety). And Video Thumbnail Extractor for good measure.
I don't do auto install of updates and don't see WS anywhere so I hope I'm not afflicted.

Do you have a lot of AVI files in that same directory?None, unless they were put there by PS and are stealthy (I see only mp4, png, m3u). The dir is devoted to PS, absolutely devoted.
I eventually opted to download AVG (free version) and run it. Hundreds of hits from malware, spyware, etc. were found and removed. My HDD started working normal again.I run avast anti-virus, adaware free and have gone through a few malware purges. The machine is XPP sp3 and doesn't have similar probs I am aware of outside of the PS dir, and/or with PS and FF when they don't dance well together, which happens occasionally.
I disabled some WMP Shell options and removed Windows Search 4.0 and haven't had 100% CPU problems as of late.How does one disable WMP shell options and remove Windows Search 4.0 (if it doesn't show up in add/remove programs)?

Next try is along these lines:
The obnoxious bug in XP that causes Explorer to read the entire contents of broken AVI files before allowing any access to them is caused by bad behavior of shmedia.dll.This problem manifests itself by causing Explorer to read the entire contents of an AVI file, regarless of its size or location any time the mouse pointer is hovered over it, or an attempt is made to access it in windows explorer. This causes 'permission denied' errors when trying to simply move, copy or delete these files as they cannot be changed while Explorer has an open handle on them.
This also causes a DoS situation where large AVI's are stored on remote shares and Explorer keeps reading the files from beginning to end each time they are accessed.
To correct this misbehavior in Windows XP, remove the following registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32
This will prevent Explorer from loading shmedia.dll in response to file property queries on these files. This will not effect your ability to play files, get file attributes, or even view thumbnails. Say goodbye to all explorer.exe 100% CPU issues.
And Solution #2 (basically does the same thing, except you are inactivating the file attributes option)...But it WORKS--No more locked .avi files:
Well windows seem to have a REALLY big problem when it comes to reading AVI files. It seems that when you click on an AVI file in explorer, it'll try to read the entire AVI file to determine the width,height, etc. of the AVI file (this is displayed in the Properties window). Now the problem with Windows is that if you have a broken/not fully downloaded AVI file that doesnt contain this info, Windows will scan the entire AVI file trying to figure out all these properties which in the process will probably cause 100% CPU usage and heavy memory usage.
To solve this problem all you have to do is the following:
1. Open up regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAs
sociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler
3. Delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"
Please note that this will no longer provide you with the windows properties displaying the AVI file information such as width, height, bitrate etc. But its a small price to pay for saving you resources.

My PS save directory, the beast, consists soley of PS generated files. I did at the beginning try to configure the various folders to display useful info (artist, bitrate, genre, etc.) and that may be part of the problem; they are always set to display details rather than icons or thumbnails. I can't figure out now how to pare that back to the minimum for all the subfolders, as I cannot set each individually. Tools-->folder options-->view-->folder views-->apply to all?? (IMO There also should be an option there to apply to all subfolders, but there is not.)
I don't think I have any Windows Search, but the way MS sneaks crap in under there means I could be mistaken.
(One of the other culprits mentioned I do not have:
C:\Users\YOUR_NAME_HERE\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network Shortcuts\)
Do you have any of the album/artist/title etc columns enabled in explorer?Is there a way to turn these off for a folder and its subfolders?
