  1. Thanks a lot. I went to edit, virtual network editor and just flicking through decided to change VMNet0 Bridged to use the network card that's on the HOST machine instead of let it pick something itself. Then changed the VM to point to that VMNet0 as well. Now appears to be working fine. Still odd though, all the other VMs as you can see appear to use virtual network cards yet work fine. EDIT-I've changed it back to just Bridged not custom in the VM properties and it's working fine still. So maybe it was that it hadn't set the network card up properly. It's weird though as on the HOST machine that has VMware 6, the VMNet0 is set to choose the adapter automatically and I don't get any issues. But on the HOST machine where it wasn't working, despite having the same setting it just refused to work. I wonder if it's because on 6.5 it's just not choosing the correct adapter automatically properly. Anyway, appears to work fine now so I can carry on with the training now :) thanks for everyone help. Really strange. I've set 6.5 back to choose it automatically and it's now working fine still.
  2. It's odd. I have version 6.0 of VMWare workstation on my other machine and it's working fine. The other version on the box where one VM is not working is verison 6.5 Now, the VM's that are working were setup on the 6.0 box and copied over and appear to be using a VMware accelerated AMD PCNet Adapter. Where as the other VM that is not working, was created on VMWare workstation 6.5 and has a network adapter called Intel Pro 1000 MT NEtwork Connection. They are all using a Bridged connection. DHCP is turned off on my network and I'm on the 10.0.1.1 range (easier to type than 192). All VMs have static IPs and connect to the correct DNS which is the Endian firewall. All VMs are working fine with static IPs and all real machines are working fine. It's just this one VM that's not working. It has been given a static IP of 10.0.1.20. If I ping that IP from a working XP VM, I get a reply. I ping the working XP VM from the 10.0.1.20 (which is the one that is not working properly or where I'm getting the error), then it pings fine. It's doing my nut in. I've never seen this error before, ever.
  3. Going through some exchange training vids. Setup a new clean server 2003 install on VMWare (I have other server 2003 vmwares working fine). Attempting to get to a network share I get the following "No network provider accepted the given network path" IP is setup fine, DNS is pointing to the correct DNS. Still I can't work out why I can't get a connection on this VMWare box. Tried it on my other machine that also has VMWare on. Did the same which it's never done before. Did a restart and seems fine now, but the other setup on the other machine (that has 1 server 2003 and 2 XP setups all working fine), just won't connect to the network and I get the above error.

    SSH

I'm using a combo, which maybe overkill of the router firewall (Draytek Vigor2800VG), Endian Firewall, then for Outbound monitoring on machines I have Comodo as it lets me control specific programs that request net access. And I'm on XP SP3, using COPSSH.

    SSH

Thanks. Know of any guides to do what you said :) I'm still a bit of a noob really. Only got the SSH setup via a guide.

    SSH

I have SSH setup on my machine at home with a rock hard password :) I hope, but I notice in the event logs in my computer, shit loads of attempts to guess a user name and password. Is there anyway to prevent this bar changing the port I've got it setup on? I have to have it on port 22 'cause it's the only open port that appears to work at work. I've got Endian firewall setup but not sure if there is an option on that to auto block IPs if they attempt an attack every few seconds (as they are every second in the logs.)
  7. http://fuzioned.com/awbs/index.php Small outfit based in Scotland. Cheap and with 110% customer service. Can't be beaten on customer service, ever.
  8. Thanks, at least I know now :) as haven't used it in ages so had lost touch with hamachi.
  9. That worked thanks. Now I have to decide if the data is worth $99 :)
  10. Got a connection setup via home to work. I can see my work machine in Hamachi and it's says it's connected fine and I can ping it. But I can't seem to RDP but I can VNC to the work machine using the Hamachi IP it's given. However, the VNC connection only lasts a few seconds before it's lost. Then I have to close down Hamachi before I can retry the connection because if I ping the work machine, I just get time outs. Any ideas? I have Comodo Firewall on my PC and the router firewall on and Endian firewall on a spare box that everything goes through. Wouldn't of thought it was a firewall issue as I can connect to the work machine, but only for a few seconds and used to do this even before I had all these firewalls up.
  11. Does anyone use a cisco VPN client with AOL? We use cisco VPN at work but most people that use AOL at home, it doesn't appear to work with it. We looked into it and think it's AOL blocking it (which is weird considering AOL and cisco are in bed with each other). However, we get the odd user now and then that claims their VPN we've given them is working on AOL. Like a user the other day claimed it had worked for 4 months and now isn't. She's a Director and was pretty pissed off, but what does she expect me to do, I can't demand AOL sort themselves out. I tested it in the office on our BT broadband line and it worked fine, so it was clearly her home broadband causing the issue.
  12. Unfortunately it didn't work.
  13. Not sure where to put this but does anyone know of a good .ost file converter? I have some old .ost files of mine from my old recovered laptop and want to convert them to .pst files, but can't seem to find any tools to do it.
  14. Nice and friendly forum then.
  15. At MaxRabbit. Off topic but I wonder where The Wall Street Journal got it's figures from. Back when Napster was being sued and they were claiming they were losing sales etc they actually failed to mentioned to the courts that, I believe it was 2004 or 2005, was the record year for album sales ever, so piracy wasn't actually having the negative effect they implied.
  16. On my setup I have WPA, MAC Filtering, use to have hidden SIDD but my phone didn't like that and no DHCP as all machines are set to static. Hardly anyone in my area that would bother trying to get on I don't think but still.
  17. Yeah I understand that but as far as I'm aware, and my knowledge isn't that great, all I'd then need to do is port forward specific ports to allow specific programs to access the T'internet (Peter Kay :) ) like Utorrent but it doesn't seem to work, the port forward rule that is. Having said that, it's weird as, when I turn off the outbound part of Endian and try to connect to my SSH server, I can't get on until I activate the port forward rule. Where as UTorrent works even if the port isn't being forwarded which I don't get. Utorrent is on something like 41014 and this port isn't being forwarded on my router. Odd. That may not have made sense, let me know if it doesn't.
  18. Now you've got me curious. What negativity is that then?
  19. Watching "The man in the middle attack" HAK.5 did, should explain why you should protect your wifi. Also, I don't agree with the comment HAK.5 made when explaining how to protect against a man in the middle attack. Claiming no one would bother trying to get into a home network. I disagree. I think they are the perfect target for some nasty people. We know some people possibly save their passwords to txt files etc. If you can get onto someone's unprotected wifi, it gives you all kinds of chances to get onto their PCs, silently, and harvest all kinds of personal info.
  20. Hello New here, from sunny old England :) My question, has anyone used Endian firewall here at all? And would Hak.5 ever do a segment on it? I've currently got it setup on a spare rig of mine and it appears quite good. Would like to see a segment done on it as parts of it I don't understand :) for example I can't get the outbound firewall working, it just ends up blocking everything. Instead, I use Comodo to control outbound traffic, deciding what programs are allowed to access the Internet and ones that aren't. It seems quite useful. Have two network cards in the old rig. One connects to the router and is classed as the RED zone so if anyone gets on, they are stuck in the red zone. The rest of the LAN is on the GREEN zone, a totally different IP range from the RED zone and on a different network card. Combine that with my Vigor2800VG router and it's firewall turned on, it maybe over kill but still :)
